I totally forgot about zipper jeans! That picture is really cute and I'd definitely wear them now. (You'll have to fight me for my skinny jeans even though kids think they are uncool.)
I don't remember buttcrack jeans. They seem really uncomfortable to sit on, like the worst kind of thong.

Karen’s Telephone Trouble. Andrew got some sweet new sneakers. “He was wearing brand-new sneakers with green trim. There were lights on the sides that blinked whenever he walked.” Light-up shoes make me laugh. Karen’s Two Families. Ok. I was staring at Karen’s shirt on the cover trying to figure out what was on them. I thought they were band-aids, but I finally realized that they are just random crayons. However, there is the tip of a yellow crayon coming out of her waistband that looks vaguely like it could be a male sex organ emerging. Lol. It’s like those random dirty things on Disney VHS covers. I don't know if you can see it clearly.

Nancy had the cutest clothes in the illustrations in Karen's Baby. There was a cute grandpa-looking sweater, a kind of busy fancy dress, and a fabulous winter coat. Karen looked like a snowman next to her.

It's too bad these illustrations aren't in color. The sweater and coat could be wildly colored and extravagant and we wouldn't know. (You can just tell the dress is black and white.)

I really enjoy Karen’s purple pants on this. I like the little check pattern on them. I like the purple/green combination. Not the big white tennies, although I would probably wear the same thing. Andrew looks like a teenager sitting there in his flannel and jeans. ETA: I don't know why the picture is sideways, but if you click on it then it is normal. Attachments:

Karen’s Wedding. Karen and company were flower girl dress shopping. They went to a store called Tiger Lily’s, where she tried on a “gorgeous purple and orange dress with layers of lace and ruffles.” Again, this is where I want illustrations to be. Not of the kids fanning themselves over a tin cup. I liked the dress that they actually picked. It is supposed to be a light blue but looks almost lavender on my cover. The waist bow kinda looks upside down? I hate the rest of the styling with the hat and gloves and thick grandma tights. I also never noticed that Andrew was wearing his little toolbelt or that it was strapped over one side of his jacket but under the other side.

That orange and purple dress sounds like it was designed by Claudia!

Karen’s Twin. This had a lot of clothing descriptions because Audrey would call Karen to find out what she was wearing each day. The twin thing started out with Karen’s infamous taxicab sweater that she wore when she barfed on the school bus. She wore the sweater with black leggings. Audrey went out and bought the same sweater that night, so it must have been sold in a boutique downtown or something.
Another outfit that Audrey copied was a jean skirt, white turtleneck, yellow sweater, white tights, and red shoes. The red shoes are an interesting exclamation point to an otherwise mellow color palette.
Third semi-copied outfit: A striped, blue dress with long sleeves and red hair ribbons. Karen wore a lot of skirts/dresses to school. I guess boys didn’t try to look at her underwear like they did with me. Lol.
Karen’s Ice Skates. These weren’t memorable, but I was just writing down any clothes descriptions I saw. Granny and Grandad came for a visit. Karen wore a navy dress, red tights, navy shoes, and red barrettes in her hair. She was committed to that color combination.
Later in the book she wore “my green dress and green leotards.” I hope that is a typo for green tights, otherwise I have no idea what she was wearing. Also, she must have had tights in 50 different colors.

Karen’s Tea Party had fancy dress descriptions. Karen bought a white dress with tiny pink and blue flowers all over. The sleeves were puffy with ribbons tied around them. (These looked constricting in the cover picture.) There was a big pink bow at the waist. She got her money's worth with this dress. She wore it at least a dozen times. She accessorized with little white gloves and a fancy pearl barrette. Nancy wore a light blue dress with matching hair ribbons. The star of the outfit was her pocketbook which was white with blue polka dots. I think it is Melody on the left side of the cover. I love her chic hairstyle and yellow dress. It didn’t have the big floppy pilgrim collar that all of Karen’s dresses had. Melody looks so happy, too! I cropped Hannie out because she was boring. (I don't know what was going on with the walls in the big house. That's some fancy Easter egg paint job.) Attachments:

Those walls look EXACTLY like the school picture background in this pic I found of my mom the other day, who worked at my middle school in the 90s. Too funny!
I can’t describe how obsessed I was with this book and the outfit descriptions. I loved Karen’s dress because it sounded like one I had at her age. I also loved the way she did her hair.
Melody is cute. Everyone looked cute in the illustrations. Even Ricky lol

^She did love to coordinate with her surroundings. I would think that would make her blend in like a wallflower when she meant to do the opposite.

As someone who was Karen's age in the early 90s, those dresses with the huge Pilgrim collars were EVERYWHERE! I had fancy flowered dresses with the huge collars and thought I was so stylish

Karen’s Softball Mystery. Karen dressed up like a crisp piece of celery for Ms. Colman’s welcome back party. (BTW, that box had 4 cupcakes max in it. So small.)
