I just read this, and even though mine was second hand, I had all the letter and stuff in it, good condition. I would have loved to hear Shannon's secret to Logan... 'My ski-jump nose isn't real! '

It would have been interesting if Shannon had confessed to someone about her intentionally failing French.

I just got this in the mail today and read it. Some of the secrets were really good (namely Mary Anne and Kristy), but a lot of them were just lame.
Really Jessi? You burned a hole in the carpet? A WHOLE dollar, Claud?! You should be hung for your crime. Dawn's was über stupid - I kept waiting for her to say that she did it so she could have the window seat or something. Stacey's made me chuckle - "Red hair is AWFUL . . . um . . . except on you, Mal! Anyway, it was SO awful on me that I had to go back to blonde - you know, the color you wish you could have and developed a complex over not having? Yeah, that color."

Here is the Mrs Kishi letter - it is on a memo style and it starts with while you were out from Mrs. Rodowsky:
Mrs. Rodowsky called. Forgot the BSC was closed for vacation. Wanted a sitter Saturday for the boys. Can't wait for you to come home. Hopes you had fun on your various trips. Hopes Kristy is feeling better. (I think your answering machine is on the blink, sweetie. Mrs Rodowsky called on my line.) Mom (Mrs. Kishi)
Did you need the claudia letter too or was this the only one?

So obv...I just finished this one and share the sentiments of loving it!
I know this may be crazy, but I think it might be fun to start a chain letter through PM for people who post on here normally. Just a crazy thought b/c I love this book so much!

I guess just start with sending people who post alot??? I don't know I am horrible at logistics...Maybe whoever starts can PM the person who most recently posted on the board and it goes from there - and have a list of who has already sent one so you don't send it to one of those peope?

^Sounds like a plan. Fresh, summer idea. I just re-read "CL." Darn that Dawn first for what she did to MA and second for insisting on the carrot cake. I think that, pardon the pun, might just take the cake on her most obnoxious (food) moment. But, alas, I know MA and everyone else, of course, agreed. One thing I was wondering, I can be a private person. Maybe more people might participate if this were somehow expanded to include other things besides "secrets?"

This was a book I never read growing up, so you can imagine my thrill when I went to the used book store by me today and saw it sitting there gloriously on the shelf! When I saw that it was under $5.00 I grabbed it and ran to check out.
I thought this was so cute, and I loved the frequent answering machine comments. I thought Kristy and Mary Anne's secrets were definitely the best. I liked that Shannon was included, but it would have been nice to see what she would have written. And I loved the reply letter that Claud wrote to Mary Anne.
I know Dr. Reese was mentioned in the regular series somewhere too...but I haven't gotten that far in my re-read. Can someone remind me when that happened?

^You did good! Dr. Reese was first mentioned in "Claudia and the Perfect Boy." Mary Anne tells Claudia that perhaps she can suggest Sean (not Addison) talk to her (Dr. R) about his feelings regarding his parents divorce. This was all shared matter-of-factly as though MA had said it a hundred times before. I have no idea why the CL letter was such a big deal. I still wish we had gotten to read about MA's initial visits to Dr. Reese. The second time Dr. Reese is mentioned and we do read about MA going to see her is in "MA and the Memory Garden" after Amelia is killed.

Ahhhh, yes, thank you MA and the Memory Garden is where I remember it from - I also remember wondering what the Dr. Reese backstory was in that book because it was the first place I ever saw her mentioned.

^Welcome For whatever reason Ann and the Ghosties didn't want to take the time to tell us MA's story/Dr. Reese, they just wanted to bring Logan back with little reason why they broke up to begin with. I think MA vs Logan and/or, more sense, a following MA book BEFORE the got back together (unfortunately such a book never existed) would have been the place for MA to go see Dr. Reese. I was also semi surprised she didn't consider dropping out of/or cutting back on the BSC ever, it sounded like she was depressed and had stuff to work through. We (at least I) might have come to empathize more with MA if she had.

Whenever I go to the used bookstore near my house, I always check to see if there are BSC books I don't already have. Usually, they're the lower numbers that I have, but I found a couple of the highers numbers today, plus the CHAIN LETTER book which I have never seen anywhere! My daughter and I have both already finished reading it. Everything was in there except the friendship bracelet. I loved the photo strip and bookmark. Mary Anne's secret didn't shock me at all and I felt like I knew it already (probably because Dr. Reese and MA's problems in home ec. were mentioned in other books). Claudia's had me rolling my eyes. A dollar? Really? I probably liked Jessi's best. Anyway, cool book and psyched I found it! ;D

I know nothing has been posted here for ages, but I finally, finally got to read Chain Letter after finding it at a secondhand store. I've been searching for this book for the longest time and I wasn't disappointed. I really loved it. The letters and handwriting really made them seem like real girls. I love the attention to detail with little scribbles and cross outs and writing that isn't straight. This book is full of personality. Many of the secrets made me laugh (reading this book was a little like reading the diary of your 13 year-old self: heartwarming and funny) especially Jessi's as I had similar experiences when I was young. Stacey's hair was hilarious. I actually understand Claudia's guilt over the dollar and don't think it's over the top. I don't think it's the dollar she feels bad about so much as being dishonest to Mimi who she was really close with and really respected. I mean, I don't believe she'd feel nearly as bad had she stolen a dollar from Janine or even one of her parents. It's because it was Mimi, I think, that Claudia feels so bad about it. I also love the colours and the attention to detail in this book, each character really comes alive through these letters.
