I should have expanded a little bit to explain what I meant, greer. I did mean that I could see Mal becoming strong willed and not giving in to the first guy that tells her she is pretty. I didn't really specify whether I saw her waiting until marriage, so I will now. I don't see her waiting, but I do see her being able to resist guys who call her pretty and beautiful and such. I don't think that people who wait to have sex are any better than anyone else, but I do think that they can be deemed 'strong'. I think the term 'strong' can describe a lot of things. From my personal experience I know how hard it actually is to wait until marriage for sex, and I know that you have to be a strong person to resist the temptations. This is just my personal decision and I understand that it isn't for everyone. I know so many strong people who deal with hardships that I can't even imagine, and so I know that term can be used in so many more ways. That was just my opinion on the matter, I guess. Edit: I know a lot of seventh and eighth graders are having sex nowadays, but that seems way too young for Mal or Jessi or anyone for that matter to do so willingly.

^Yeah, that's pretty young! I prefer to think that Jessi and Mallory wouldn't be sexually active at those ages. There are so many other things to focus on...like just being a KID.

^I agree. That would put Jessi at age 12 and I just don't see her doing that. I still see dancing taking up most of her time at this point.

^Who? And is it appropriate for you to be posting here? OT I know it's a stereotype, but I think Stacey. We've seen her bend her will for boys before.

Why do you think Jessi will lost it when she is in 7th grade?

She seems really interested in older men and those are the people who lose it first. How are you such an expert at this? This is an extremely stereotypical and generalized statement.

Curtis Shaller in grade 8 A year or two isn't all that a big deal to have a crush on at that age. Now, if Dawn and Travis actually had a relationship--that would have been a problem. Anyway, I agree with kylie on this. You are very young and really shouldn't be thinking about subjects like this at your age. Maybe you should look at the titles of the threads and ask yourself, "What would [insert babysitter's name here] say if they saw me reading this and adding to the discussion?" Lame, I know, but they were goody-two-shoes and you KNOW if Mallory or Jessi were commenting on things like this, they would be talking them out of it.

By your logic, laylaandmixup, Stacey should have had sex in elementary school or something, since she was interested in Wes, who was way older than her than Curtis was for Jessi. And sarish, I can picture that! Now I'm imagining the BSC calling an emergency meeting, gathering around the computer and planning an intervention, haha: Kristy: We have to do something. If our clients find out Jessi and Mal are looking at this sort of stuff, our reputation could really be damaged. MA: You're right, Kristy. What if it escalates? What if they stop discussing it and... *hushed voice* start doing it? *bursts into tears* Claud: Oh my lord, what do we do?!? Kristy: *seriously* It's time for drastic measures. Stacey: Like what? *All thinking. Claud starts rummaging for candy to keep up their energy* Kristy: *brightens* I've just thought of the best idea! *pauses to draw out suspense* Claud: *pelts Kristy with ring dings* Tell us already! Kristy: Here's what we'll do. We'll gather all our charges together and ask Jessi and Mal to come help look after them for some reason. Before they arrive, we order the kids to be rude, annoying and be generally terrible and then we make those two take care of ALL the kids. Then we'll stand around making comments like, 'Well, I'm glad I don't have kids yet!' and someone else will say, 'Gee, it's a good thing you don't do anything where you might end up with kids, if you get what I mean.' MA: Kristy, that's brilliant! We'll put them off... *hushed voice, glances around* sex forever! *Stacey and Claud nod in agreement* Kristy: *looks smug* Let's start then... Okay, never mind that they've dealt with terrible kids before. It's interesting that everyone thinks twelve is too young to start having sex, because there was some survey here in Australia not too long ago that found a lot of kids start at eleven to twelve now. There was even some discussion about starting sex ed in kindergarten, I think, or during one of the really early years. I remember being just at the idea. By the way, did the older girls ever have sex ed, or was it just never mentioned?

I think it was just never mentioned.
My boyfriend was shocked when I told him that in the community I grew up in, the normal age to lose virginity was 16 or later. Apparently in Russia 13 is totally normal. Both Russian boyfriends I've had also thought that sex ed was a joke they made up for Beavis and Butthead, so perhaps there is a correlation.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned or something, but the fact that it's now normal to have sex at 13 just freaks me out. The idea that people are starting at age 11 in some places is even worse. I was playing with Barbies and reading the BSC at 11...definitely still a kid. Maybe I'm in the minority, which is fine, but I think it's sad that childhood is so short now.
Back to topic: I don't think that Jessi being interested in a boy who's a year older than her makes her more likely to lose her virginity sooner, and I don't think that having crushes on older men makes that happen, either. When I was young teenager, I had all sorts of crushed on older celebrities (Dean Cain, anyone?) and I wasn't sleeping around.

I still don't think it's normal in the parts of the US where I'm from. I know one person who lost their virginity that young in the US. Russians grow up a lot faster and independent from a younger age. I see seven year olds wandering around Saint Petersburg by themselves, or just with friends, all the time. My bf was also 13 twenty years ago, so who knows what it's like now.
I think the BSC girls, except maybe Mallory, had good enough family structures around them to make responsible decisions about sex, whether or not it involved "waiting." In regards to Curtis Shaller, one year isn't really a big difference. If she hadn't dumped Quint, I could see him trying to pressure Jessi into sex kind of young, but a pregnancy would totally mess up her dance career.

I agree; a year isn't much for a crush, and neither is it strange for younger adolescents to have crushes on someone *much* older. The much-older person is really just as unattainable, and therefore safe, as a movie star close to one's own age. (I've been on both ends of this one. )
