I kind of liked that not everyone in the BSC was an A student also.
Abby and Claudia were bright, but made mostly average grades, but were not portrayed as dull, which was nice.
Lots of very bright people make average grades all through school.
I also was mostly an average student in grammar school.
I was lots like Claudia academically...creative, often day-dreamed my way through classes and found most routine schoolwork dull.
In high school, I shone in Spanish and creative writing classes and art class.
I have a teenage niece who's a lot like Claudia, Abby and me.
She doesn't care much for traditional school, makes mostly average grades but is highly creative and wants to go to art school in the fall of 2022.
I see Abby maybe shining in law and justice or diplomatic relations while Claudia blooms in art school.
I'm glad the BSC series didn't make a huge deal over who was a "smart scholar" and who wasn't.
BTW, I'm re-reading Hello, Mallory and Mallory tells us that she also was taking French in sixth grade.
I think a sizable number of SMS students took Canadian French since Connecticut is in New England close to the Canadian border.
Most likely, lots of other SMS students took either Spanish, since Stoneybrook is also close to NYC, and possibly some SMS and SHS students took German, Yiddish or Italian.
In the Girl Talk series, I love that Randy Zak took Italian.

I always get the impression when I read a Stacey book, she doesn’t care much about school besides math.

Don’t get me wrong, I bet she enjoys it well enough, but she’s never really excited for classes or projects like Mary Anne or Mallory had.

Some people are "good" at school without being particularly interested in it. She seemed like she would have very organized study habits.

Some people are "good" at school without being particularly interested in it. She seemed like she would have very organized study habits. I definitely see this. She had natural talent and was overall responsible, but school wasn't her passion. She had lots of other cool things in her life to get excited about.

I never saw her as particularly caring one way or another yet still doing well. Stacey and also Kristy cared about a lot more stuff then grades. Stacey cared more about other stuff

I definitely didn’t love science and math in school but did my very best to get good grades, or my parents would be like “??” Calculus in high school was especially hard!

Mal - bad at P.E. (volleyball) Shannon - Astronomy (Astronomy club) Mallory definitely hated Gym, and I totally identify with her dislike for volleyball. What a game! Like, is it supposed to actually be fun? But she did ace Archery, so at least there were some parts of gym she was good at. I'm pretty sure, on that note, that Mary Anne and Claudia also both hated Gym. Mary Anne wholeheartedly. Claudia could be persuaded to do something related to sport occasionally, but she did say in one book that she hated sports.

I was just reading Jessi's Gold Medal and Claudia did participate in the backward race but i remember her saying she hated it in another one.

Her hating gym was never a big deal (like it was for Mallory) because Claudia hated many other parts of school and those got the focus. It made her skiing chapters in Winter Carnival all the more effective. People don't think of Claudia hating sports, they just don't associate her with sports at all.

I can't remember which book it was but on a reread I saw that Kristy says that she's doesn't like science.

Abby isn't good at math, hence why she buys the "study guide" in Abby's Lucky Thirteen
