I wonder if it would have been completely different and they would have been overly protective of her. That could have been sweet.

^Aw, we can hope. I'm reading Secret of Susan right now. All the Pikes (and Jessi) go over to the Hobarts' house to play. When they get there, no mention any longer of the triplets. Too bad. Maybe they could have befriended Ben and/or James. If they had, maybe they'd have been nicer to Nicky.

I picture one girl triplet as being a Kristy-like tomboy and being with her brothers all the time anyway. I don't think the two boys would shun her, and I don't think she would be any closer to Mallory than any of the boys were.

i only know one set of twins that is boy-girl, but he is fiercely protective of her because they went through childhood together and he knows her better than anyone else. it's pretty adorable. even if one or two of the triplets had been girls, just the bonds of growing up together and having to share everything would (eventually) turn them into friends. you can't overstate the impact siblings have on a person.

This is an overused question, but I still can't help but wonder how you get the strength to have 4 more kids after you've given birth to a girl and then to triplet boys...

^And all within a few year time-span. I would love to know the thoughts of Mrs. Pike's doctor and extended family.

^ I think they probably would've gotten headaches on trying to figure out what she was thinking or their heads would've exploded.

I'm surprised Mallory never mentioned something like, "[relative so-and-so] used to live with us for a while to help my Mom and Dad when my brothers and sisters were younger". This could have been added in when they talk about Nannie, for example, or any relative.

^i think Ann just had a weird obsession with huge families and didn't bother to think about the logistics of it.

The triplets were featured a lot in Welcome Home, Mary Anne, and Jordan had some good moments. First he came up with the most disturbing room idea for Jeff involving making a scarecrow with a monster mask face and propping it up in the corner to freak people out. That is so much creepier to me than having a little ghost in my wall. Then the Pike boys came over early one morning and caught Mary Anne still in her bathrobe. She was all embarrassed (she seriously has issues with pajamas), Byron was embarrassed (no idea why), Adam smiled at her, and Jordan cat called her. I thought it was funny. I re-read everyone's thoughts in this whole thread and decided that while Jordan and Adam are often interchangeable, Jordan also has a charisma/humor that Adam doesn't have.

^Maybe Byron has a secret crush on MA?
The only moment(s)? when Adam was separated more from Jordan were in "MA and Miss Priss." I think the kickball team was more his idea than the others. On the cover it's Adam wearing the white shirt with clipboard. I just checked and it was Adam who gave in and finally told Jenny he'd "work it out" (allowing her to play).

I have no idea if it's true but I love the idea of Byron having a secret crush on Mary Anne!

Sparklymouse, I feel as if I remember what you were talking about in Welcome Home, Mary Anne. I always felt like Jordan was the more "hetero" one who was slightly obnoxious at times. Adam is a bit hard to distinguish between Jordan, as zoar mentioned, but he seems to be a bit more sweet. Byron, referred to as the "gay" triplet -- okay in the Pike family SOMEONE has to be gay (statistics, haha jokes) -- and I feel as if it would be Byron. He's more sensitive and is the oldest triplet. Remember how they said he was the oldest sibling when Mallory left for Riverbend (a la Riverbend mania!) And did you know that if you have twins or triplets, the chances of one being gay is higher? Anyone heard of Tegan and Sara (lesbian musician twins?) One of my ex-boyfriends is gay (obviously) and so is his older brother. (I know this is slightly off topic).

They did say Byron was the oldest when Mallory left. I read through this entire thread today and it was said several times that Jordan was the oldest. At any rate, he was 40 seconds older than Adam. So did the birth order go Byron, Jordan, Adam? I always pictured Byron as the youngest.
