Well Mal wasn't miss happy-go-lucky in that book either.

^Which is especially strange when you consider how bent out of shape she gets when Jessi is upset about her going to Riverbend.

I think one of the worst things for both Jessi and Mal was that they didn't tell each other right away about their decision. This made the other girl feel more cut out and isolated. I guess they were also upset about losing their only best friend, which I can kind of understand. Neither of them seem to have many friends outside of the BSC in Stoneybrook and the other girls are older. I think this makes Jessi and Mal feel like they don't really fit with anyone except each other. Their behavior was still a bit obnoxious, though.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm not really a Becca fan. She's a great kid when she's with other kids, especially Charlotte - but in any plot that's just about her, she's kind of whiney and annoying. (Like Jessi's Big Break and Jessi and the Jewel Thieves, for example!) I'm pretty indifferent towards Squirt. He's cute, but since he's so young there's not a lot for him to do. But then again, I've read about 5 Jessi books, so maybe I'm not the best judge of character!

I'm reading Jessi's Big Break for the first time now and wtf at Becca? Geesh she needs to simmer down. I could understand being upset about her big sister leaving and missing her, but Becca is such a freaking brat about it! I guess that's how kids are at that age though, she's only 8 so she's not exactly an expert at dealing with her emotions in a mature adult fashion. I still like her and Squirt a lot, they seem cute.

Just re-read Jessi and the Dance School Phantom, and Becca was kind of annoying about the pet show. If I entered a hamster in a pet show, I would never expect it to win a prize. Especially not the best all-around pet prize. But maybe I'm being too hard on poor Becca...

I felt for Becca in her wanting a more "exotic" pet. I wasn't allowed a pet (though my parents told me my grandparents' dog was "mine," she just didn't live with us. Which was technically true, my grandfather got me a puppy and ended up being unable to part with her! He was that kind of guy, hand him a puppy, kitten, baby, etc and you'd never get it back!) until I was nine or ten and my parents let me get a kitten. But she did seem to get into a funk over nothing.
Personally, I'd have given best all-around pet to the triplets.

^ Are you talking about the one where they dressed up like a horse or something? If I'm remembering it wrong, I apologize in advance.

I thought Becca and Charlotte were good friends to Vanessa (and really cute playing secret agent) in Poor Mallory. Becca seems like such a good kid and good friend, even though she does have her moments. I just wish that she wouldn't have such fits with Jessi going away to NYC. But maybe that's because she's so close to Jessi and is afraid Jessi is going to abandon her???

I think Becca totally idolized Jessi. Jessi was so confident and successful on stage and Becca was exactly the opposite. I think it's cute how much she looked up to her older sister and it is understandable that she'd be afraid of Jessi leaving her behind because she seemed quite dependent on Jessi at times.

I always hated Squirt because I think Squirt is a gross name. Also, I always picture him drooling and slobbering. Since I skip any chapter dealing with the Ramseys, I have no real evidence for this, but I imagine Squirt to be a rather disgusting baby.

^ Aw poor Squirt ;D I never got that impression and always found him pretty cute but his name did start out annoying me. It slowly grew on me, though. So the character and all the Ramseys. I can see why the name might have gross associations, though, that might influence the way the kid is perceived.

^ ;D Now I'm picturing a 40 year old man named "Squirt" ;D For some reason, I picture him as always being small though I think the books say that he actually grew and wasn't small for his age, even.
