They've been saying that since Josie was born. On the fertility doctor episode, they did tests to see if she's in perimenopause. But yeah, Jim Bob and Michelle would never say they've stopped trying because they're quiverfull.

Do they not think that if God wanted them to have more babies then he would not require a fertility doctor?

Do they not think that if God wanted them to have more babies then he would not require a fertility doctor? The doctor Jim Bob and Michelle went to see was not a fertility doctor as much as he was an OB/GYN specializing in high-risk pregnancies, but he did tests to see if Michelle is still fertile. I don't think any doctor in their right mind would look at a 48-year-old woman with 19 children, one born dangerously early due to severe preecclampsia and a pregnancy that resulted in a stillbirth and think that this is a woman that needs fertility treatment or IVF. As far as I know though, getting fertility help is not against quiverfull for the most part, although it does seem to go against "leaving it up to god."

Out of curiosity, I looked up the most amount of pregnancies/births in the world and the number is said to have been 69. That took place in the early to mid 1700s. The Duggars are also on this list (if you're curious). Apparently they have friends, the Bates family, who also have their own show and also have 19 kids. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_with_the_most_children

I read about the 69 children. That's alot of children. That was back in 1700's. Not all kids, lived to pass infancy.
Ismail Ibn Sharif had 860 children. From multiple wives and concubines. Wow, he was busy with every female, he knew.

I love the Pikes. I really and truly do. BUT I hate that Mr. and Mrs. Pike rely on Mallory a lot. I mean, yeah, it's fine for her to babysit occasionally and do chores and help out and stuff, but Mal is practically a mini-mom! Also, how in the world did they have babies within such a short amount of time?!?! You'd think Ann M. Martin would spread out the age gaps between the kids a little more like maybe:
Mallory, 11.
Triplets, 9.
Vanessa, 7.
Nicky, 5.
Margo, 3.
Claire, 1.
Though, Margo and Claire wouldn't be interesting. So maybe they should've made Mal 13, the triplets 11, Vanessa 9, Nicky 7, Margo 5, and Claire 3. It's more realistic and plausible.
In the beginning, the Pike Parents were still independent, but later on, they became more and more dependent. I hated them in Get Well Soon, Mallory. I haven't read Mallory on Strike, but from what I heard, they seem unlikeable in that, too.
However, there are good in them. Mrs. Pike is warm and loving and a great mother. Mr. Pike is relaxed, laid back, funny, a family man, the "cool dad". (Is it obvious that I like Mr. Pike better?).
I'm thinking of writing a fan fiction of them having a ninth child...

Wow, he was busy with every female, he knew. Wow. That's an unbelievable amount of children. I read through that Wiki page and there was a man that fathered 1,000 to 2,000 children with several different women and from concubines. Now THAT is absurd.

I like the pike parents, but I could see why people didn't like them. I love the whole laid back attitude they have. Making Mallory work all the time is something I didn't like.

Agreed! I wish MY parents were as laid back and easygoing as they were. Of course, I still love them.

It's weird because I actually met a mom online, that makes me think a lot about Mrs. Pike. She'd basically be her, except she has 6 kids and they're all boys. But they have no rules. They can do whatever they want as long as they're not being jerks. No bedtimes, curfews, etc. They're even homeschooled so they don't have to listen to teachers. She also doesn't limit what they can wear though, unlike the Pikes. And she doesn't force the older ones to look after the little ones.
The Pikes were pretty hit and miss with me. Being lax on rules is okay to an extent, but then I found it hypocritical that they then did have other rules (like no piercings or sparkly shirts-the makeup I get, they were 11-but sparkly shirts? Those aren't "mature"). I also hated how Mal always had to be the responsible one. There's helping out and then helping raise...that always bothered me. I also hated Mr. Pike in the book where he lost his job. It seemed like his attitude came out of nowhere and I hated how they didn't better explain it to the kids.

I also always used to think they were going to have another one. At first I wasn't sure if they'd include a pregnancy, but then they did with Peaches and later Carol. I'm surprised they never had #9. Especially with all that alone time they had.

^Especially, when they're alone at Sea City. While Mary Anne & Stacey, watch the kids. Mallory, helping out. I thought, they'll have one more child. Make it 9. Could be a boy or a girl. Claire, wouldn't be the youngest in the family. Probably, Ann M. Martin want it to be even. Four boys and four girls.

Her siblings include a set of triples AND a set of twins!"
