I love the name Keisha!! I think it's super cute. They really should've used her more, it would've been interesting for someone from Jessi's past to pop up and create a storyline. A Jessi-Mal-Keisha friendship triangle could've easily been a book!

And so much more interesting than another Stacey's-friggin'-boyfriends book.

^ Really. I mean, what 13 year old girl needs that many boyfriends?

Oh I don't want them ditching boyfriend books, those are my favorites! The drama! I love it. I mean they could've replaced like... Secret Language or Pet Sitter!

I've only known one Keisha and she was black so I guess I didn't get the "generic black girl name" part. She was a good friend of mine back in middle school.
I did think it was sad she didn't get more attention in the books but Mal and Jessi always seemed to get less attention than the older girls anyway.

^ Agree. I would have liked to have seen all of the younger girls - including Keisha - get more attention. Another point on her is that I noticed she came to help at the carnival at the Pikes in Dawn and the Big Sleepover. Didn't say much about her but it was interesting to see her mentioned.

What book was it in where Jessi goes back to Oakley and Keisha is acting totally different and kind of being “too cool” for her? I think this book gave me a negative impression of Keisha because I get the feeling that she would dump Jessi in a second. I did like it, though, how she came to the performance in Secret Language and met Mal and they seemed to get along. I see Keisha as being more of a “Stacey” while I think Mallory would be a more loyal friend.

Dawn's Big Move, I think. Dawn is worried that when she goes back everyone will have changed. Keisha seemed okay in Happy Holidays, Jessi though. Maybe that was just a phase for her.

That's what I was thinking with Jessi's Big Move. Agree Keisha was nice in Happy Holidays. But there, she didn't have anyone to be "cool" for. Not sure why but she just seems like she would be one to go with the "in" crowd more than Jessi, who seems like more of an "individual" (to borrow a favorite word from the books ;D)

yep I agree with aln. but I suppose it's kind of understandable I mean at 11 a lot of girls go through that phase of wanting to be cool. Plus she had lost her bff and Jessi says her and Keisha used to do everything together, so I imagine she was kinda ended up alone. maybe not totally alone but you know how Mal was pre-Jessi? where she had friends but no one she really fit in with? Thats kinda how I think Keisha would've been after Jessi left and then possibly changing to fit in better. Gosh I'm giving this way too much thought

Yeah Jessi was mad because Keisha was being a bit snotty, wearing make up and wanted to go shopping... I find that scene a little amusing because I remember when I was a pre-teen when one girl would start wearing make up and acting more into boys, the other girls would be stunned and think she's "changed." I think Jessi was acting the same.

This may just be me being idiosyncratic again, but for some reason I didn't really completely take Jessi's words at face value there. Maybe it's because in other books she's so completely hypersensitive to insult. I mean, I could believe that Keisha had changed her style, maybe, but that's normal for an eleven-year-old--if anything, I think it was a little bit snotty for Jessi to expect Keisha not to be going on and having her own life while Jessi was in Stoneybrook, and that was the impression I got--that Jessi was mad because things weren't exactly where she left them, and sorry sweetie, that's life. I don't even necessarily assume Keisha was forced to change herself to fit in better, but that as a normal eleven-year-old, she might be experimenting with different looks and interests, and certainly making new friends. That all might have happened if Jessi hadn't moved, and I wouldn't think it makes her a bad person.

^ That's exactly what I was trying to say. At that age, girls are super sensitive about their friends "changing," because it's true, girls are changing at this point because they're starting to grow up, develop of of course go through puberty. Keisha is getting into make-up, shopping and fashion earlier than Jessi and often girls feel intimidated by that and feel scared that their friend has become a different person. Maybe Keisha was just in a bad mood that day (or even just being hormonal) and Jessi just happened to be there on an off-day for her. Especially since later on, Jessi said that Keisha seemed more like her old self. Like I said, I think that Jessi was just being over-dramatic about it because she was afraid that her friend had moved on and changed in personality (when it's most likely just puberty signs). I probably would have felt the same at her age.

^ I agree. I just get the impression that Keisha might be kind of a Stacey - more concerned about being "cool" than Jessi is, even though Jessi does worry about this a little. Not sure why but I see her as being the kind to be "humiliated" by someone "babyish" and "immature" and never know when that person might be Jessi. I knew girls like that (hopefully the kind I am talking about makes sense) and Keisha seems like she might be one of them. She did seem pretty nice, though, and not like that in Happy Holidays so maybe I am judging her too harshly or without enough info. That's why I wish we would have seen more of Keisha.;D Didn't she have younger siblings, too? Were they mentioned much?

Keisha had 2 younger siblings, Kara, who was 2 and Billy who was 5. They appear in Happy Holidays Jessi and possibly others too.
