I'm just surprised that none of the kids had the same name. It'd be a little confusing but much more realistic. Especially with kids the same age cause there's a new trendy name every year. Even if it was annoying, it made sense that half the dads were named John.

^ well, there was Matthew Hobart (that was his name, right?) and Matthew Braddock. Ummm, can't think of any other kids that had the same names.

You know what's strange? There are so many BSC names that aren't neccesarily weird but that I've never heard in real life. I've never met anybody named Mary Anne, Stacey, Claudia, Shea, Dawn, or Mallory. (I could go on but you get the picture.) Oh I so agree about Dorianne! What the hell kind of name is that? There were a few other odd ones, too. Archie? His real name is Archibald, right? WTF? Actually, I hate all of the Rodowsky's names. Shea, Jackie, and Archie. Ew. Margo is horrible, too. I thought Mallory was an ugly name when I was younger, but now I think it's kind of nice. Why were there so many double names? David Michael, Emily Michelle, Mary Anne. Gosh, there's so much to say about the names in BSC land.

^ Initially, I thought Emily was her first name and Michelle was her middle name. Often people refer to babies and little kids by their full names, just because it's cute. Emily was always introduced as "Emily Michelle" in Chapter Two, but often she was called Emily.
David Michael on the other hand. What's with that? He was always, always, ALWAYS addressed as David Michael.
Another double-name - Katie Beth.
I've known quite a few Stacey's, Jessica was INSANELY popular when I was growing up and funnily enough, I bought a lot of my BSC books from a woman named Dawn through eBay. She's the first and only one I've heard of IRL, though! My dad worked with someone named Archibald, they called him Arch... but he was OLD... I couldn't imagine a four yr old with that name! Ha, very outdated.
I don't mind the name Margo too much, but I prefer the spelling Margot. Mallory is a nice name, I agree, but dibbly weird ;D

I actually like the name Anastasia better than Stacey... I think that's from the Anastasia books by Lois Lowry, though. I love that character, so I like the name.
I agree about all those names that aren't necessarily strange, but that I've never seen in real life. The only two names of BSC members where I know people with that name is Kristy (well, actually, it's Kirsty that I know) and Jessica. Funnily enough, I never address the Jessicas that I know as Jessi, because that reminds me of BSC Jessi. But I can't imagine BSC Jessi as Jess.

I love the Anastasia books too! They were HUGE favorites when I was a kid. Not terribly fond of the name, though. Stacey is better IMO One question. Why was Jessi always listed as JESSICA Ramsey on the back cover of BSC books? None of the other girls who went by nicknames had their full name on the back cover - fo example, it didn't say KRISTIN Thomas or ANASTASIA McGill. So why Jessica Ramsey? She was never addressed as Jessica. I've known plenty of Kristy's, but they're usually spelt Christie or something. I'd never seen it spelt like BSC Kristy before, when I was little I always read it as Kirsty.

Hey, that's true about the listing of Jessi's name! No idea. Maybe an oversight on the part of whoever did the cover design? *shrugs* We can just do what we always do, and chalk it up to inconsistency The Anastasia books are awesome I still read them now. I never quite grew out of my kid books... As you can see...

Maybe they didn't want people to think that "Jessi" was a BOY.

In fact, I'm loving my kid books more now than I did back then! I totally never got the Anastasia humor until I re-read these books recently. Those books were freakin' hilarious.

Ooh I loved the Anastasia books! I think my sister dressed up as her once for a class play, actually. Unless it was another girl character in a book.
Anyway, I know a Mary, but not a Mary Anne. I'm Kristen and have NEVER went by Kristy. The closest I've come to that is my family calling me Krissy. I've known a couple Stacey's, lots of Jessica's (one was called Jessie). Other than that, I'm drawing a blank. I always though Claudia and Mallory were the weirdest names (but I loved Claudia's). And then the "adult" names they gave a lot of the kids... Karen, for example. Hated that name for a 7 year old!
Totally agree on the double names. That bugs me sooo much, ESPECIALLY with David Michael! David is already practically too much, you'd think he'd go by Dave, much less friggin David Michael! And it's odd that they never offer any explanation for that, either. That's always always always bothered me.

Emily was always introduced as "Emily Michelle" in Chapter Two, but often she was called Emily. You're right, she was often called Emily, so most likely Emily is her first name and Michelle is her middle name. My family often call me Kari Lynn which is my first and middle name, so I can understand the Emily Michelle thing. But the David Michael thing is seriously weird. What's up with the name Linny? Is that a nickname? It has to be, but for what? In Mallory and the Dream Horse, she randomly referred to Jessi as Jessica at one point. It was so weird.

What about how they'd always have to explain that Jessi, Becca and Mal were short for Jessica, Rebecca and Mallory. Um, I think we can figure that out, thanks. But they'd hardly ever mention that Kristy was actually Kristen or that you could somehow get Stacey from Anastasia.
I agree about some of the names being too adult. Andrea Prezzioso is not a cute baby name. Nancy Dawes also sounded very old lady to me.

I always loved the names Dawn Schafer and Laine Cummings. And I thought Stacey's real name, Anastasia Elizabeth was actually pretty cute. I also liked Jessica. I don't know why she'd want to shorten it to Jessi, especially without the 'e'. And why never 'Jess'? As for boy's names, I liked the names Austin, Trevor, Jeff, Adam and Jackie. I don't know about Logan, though. For the longest time, I thought it was pronounced Log-en. I thought Byron was awful. The Pikes better have been a fan of gothic poetry. And I could never read about Archie without picturing Archie from the comics. Conveniently, they both had red hair and freckles.
Of course, there were some real stinkers, like Margo, Dorianne, and David Michael...
