^OT, but my old roommate had a friend named Kristen, and I remember her saying that she hated meeting Kristens, only to find out they were actually Kristins. She also used to go around saying "I'm Kris and I'm ten!" when she was ten.
I thought Mallory, Vanessa, and Stacey were the major characters most 80s names. Surprising that there weren't more recurring characters named Melissa or Jessica, considering when the series was written.

When I read the books as a kid I NEVER understood how they got Stacey from Anastacia. I'm not really sure what my problem was....it was definitely a Claudia moment for me. I just didn't get it!
I agree that Stacey seems like a total 80s name. Like a girl with a perm and stonewashed jeans at the mall. Which is totally Stacey anyway, so it fits! I don't care for that name, it's too valley girl for me. Anastacia is a nice name, but I can see how a younger girl wouldn't like it.

I've never heard the name Mallory outside of the BSC and the Facts of Life! ITA with hitzpink on Stacey's name. It kinda bugs me that she hates Anastasia so much, but Stacey would be "cooler" for an 80s teen.

^ Was there a Mallory on The Facts of Life? Or are you thinking of Family Ties? I thought Mallory, Vanessa, and Stacey were the major characters most 80s names. Surprising that there weren't more recurring characters named Melissa or Jessica, considering when the series was written. Well, one of the club members was named Jessica... ;D

I am so ashamed of myself right now. I'm sure Jessi would think I forgot her full name because she is black

I thought Jamie and Lucy Newton were really sweet names. Sari and Skylar are also pretty and quite unusual (Sky would be a cute nickname... haha made me think of Sky Masterson then!). Shannon and Maria Kilbourne are quite nice as well. I liked Matthew Braddock or Matthew Hobart (Mathhew's one of my favourite names). I also like the surname, Johanssen.
Didn't like the names Shawna, Pete (because it reminds me of 'feet'), Norman, Hamilton (Buddy's real name), Betsy, Howie, etc... Logan and Hunter Bruno... were their parents from the prehistoric days or something??
Imagine if instead of Anastacia being shortened to Stacey, it could have been shortened to Annie. Annie McGill sounds quite pretty.

Aw, Annie McGill sounds sweet. I knew an Anastacia in school (pronounced Ahna-stah-cia) that went by Tasha.
I had the Charlotte Johannsen/Scarlett Johannson association in mind for a few years now, but it hadn't occurred to me that Matthew Braddock really now reminds me of Matthew Broderick. I guess since I was used to seeing/reading it as just Matt Braddock...

I found in a Karen book that Nannie's name was Janet Taylor. That's so normal and not very granny-like. I never really thought of her having an actual name. She was just "Nannie."

Ooh, so they actually gave Nannie a name? Interesting. Taylor...maybe she's related to Bart. Wait a minute...does this mean her daughter's maiden name is...Elizabeth Taylor? Maybe that's why she kept Thomas for so long. ;D

Janet Taylor?! No way, I can't picture Nannie as a Janet Taylor! She needs to have a more grandmotherly name. Janet Taylor is too harsh sounding to me.

i always loved the name claudia, but it may have been because she was my favourite sitter when i was younger. i don't really like any of the names now.
and i've known a lot of people with BSC names: kristy, stacey and abby (i work with them), mallory (weird girl in elementary school), jessica (so many at school), and my old best friend was dawn.
poor claudia and mary anne.

Logan and Hunter Bruno... were their parents from the prehistoric days or something?? Aw... I love the name Hunter! Perhaps because of two of my favorite theatre actors (Hunter Foster and Hunter Bell), but still.
