I have been meaning to post on this for a while but keep forgetting. Does it almost seem to anyone else like Kristy and Abby have a crush on Sgt. Johnson? I always found that a bit ironic since they're usually the least "boy crazy" and the least likely to fall for the older boys (Dawn and Stacey). I guess it makes sense in a way, though, since I was a lot like them with having more important things to think about than boys but tended to like much older guys (like Sgt. Johnson ;D) when I did develop a crush. I never can picture Sgt. Johnson. Is he ever described?

^ Thanks. Guess I need to read through the whole thread ;D I'm also curious how old he is. Do they mention that? I always picture him being about 40ish but he's probably only in his 20s because that's "ancient" to the BSC ;D

I think he's pretty old actually, because in Abby and the Secret Society they mention the death of his best friend, who died while investigating a country club--thirty years ago.

I thought the same thing about Abby and Kristy crushing on Sgt. Johnson, aln, and also that I thought it was funny because they're the least "boy-crazy" so to speak. But I do think it sort of makes sense. I know when I was a teenager, I loved feeling like I was being taken seriously--I had sort of a mini-crush on one of my teachers for that exact reason. I say mini-crush because I didn't write him love poetry or daydream about kissing him or dress up for him or anything; I just liked to go by his room before school and talk to him, and asked him to read my writing sometimes, and I felt really good about impressing him. I mean, I'm a perfectionist and probably in part an insecure snob, so I was happy for praise from any teacher, but from a lot of teachers it just seemed kind of rote. I did good work and they doled out a little compliment. But when he said my writing or my ideas were good, I felt like he really meant it, and that was very powerful.
I'm not sure the dates on Sgt. Johnson add up, but my opinion is that the entire timeline of Abby and the Secret Society makes NO FREAKIN' SENSE, whether you use the date the BSC actually started in the 80s or the year it was published--the historical context is just so messed up and watered down and makes the adults stupid to make a point that doesn't go anywhere but gets in a few smacks of the "PREJUDICE IS BAD, 'KAY" hammer. And Claudia knows about the Cold War? I know it's canon, but I don't believe it! I just don't! I hates it!
(Um, totally not directed at you personally, greer, since obviously mentioning that book makes sense with regard to Sgt. Johnson's age. It's just the faux-historiocity in that particular books fills me with unreasonable irritation for a darn BSC book. I think maybe because the preview sounded so cool, and the mystery before it was the last one I bought when the books were still being printed, so it had built up in my mind.)

^ Felt the same way with a lot of professors, alula. Also agree about the Secret Society time line. That is one of the things that really confused me about that book, which I don't really care for. I like Sgt. Johnson, though, so it is kind of strange that my least favorite mysteries happen to be the ones he's featured pretty prominently in like Cat Burglar and Secret Society. What other ones is he in? When did they meet him?

I remember him in: Claudia and the Clue in the Photograph (I think his first appearance, because he introduces himself to them) Mary Anne and the Silent Witness Babysitters' Christmas Chiller
And there's probably more, but those immediately sprang to mind...

Isn't he in Mystery Money too? And maybe Dawn and the Disappearing Dogs? I don't really remember.
I always liked Sgt. Johnson. I too also thought of him as kind of hot. I can see Kristy having a crush on him, because I can picture her being attracted to someone with a lot of authority or power. Abby's crush on him seems kind of random, though.
But yeah, the Stoneybrook Police are pretty useless. Even my beloved Sgt. Johnson, he seemed to almost depend on those girls to solve his cases sometimes.

Maybe Sergeant Johnson's friend was much older than he was? I have Secret Society in forever so I can only vaguely recall it, no details.

^ That's definitely possible. Not sure on the details either. Maybe the "friend" was more like an older mentor. Agree about the police being worthless but if they weren't, there wouldn't be as many mysteries for the BSC to solve (and for me to read) ;D

I think they were childhood friends, so the timeline in Secret Society makes so sense at all.
I think Sgt. Johnson was also in Baby-Sitters Beware. I'm surprised Stacey didn't have a crush on him. He did sound kinda hot. Yeah, and I too had crushes on some of my professors.

Sgt Johnson did sound hot to me, as well. Despite being shy, I've always been boy crazy. Not like Stacey though! I always figured the ghostwriter made a mistake when he or she wrote that 30 years ago when Sgt. Johnson and DF were 18 in Abby's Secret Society and possibloy meant 20 years ago so Sgt Johnson would be 38 or so...? Speaking of our favorite Stoneybrook Sgt. I apologize if this belongs in the thread about Kristy and the Cat Burglar and not here, but I think it could go either way. Anyway, I got the impression from K and the CB that K and Sgt. Johnson were friends of sorts or at least that he was someone K felt she could talk to? I think if he were truly 38 (more K's mom's age) I envision Watson always as being a few years older which isn't much but in BSC world is probably a lot, K might look toward Sgt Johnson as a father figure. Might have been sweet if it had been explored in the books. Anyone? Mona

I get the impression that Sgt. Johnson is hot also. I had a lot of confusion as well with the timeline in Secret Society but if I pull the book out, I'll remember how it made sense.
At any rate, even if he's around 50, he could still be hot. Adam Baldwin (Chuck, Firefly, Angel) is nearly 50 and he is smokin' hot and in supersexy shape!

I picture him in his mid-30's, which doesn't really work with the whole "Secret Society" timeline. I'm willing to bet that book was more of an inconsistency than anything else, and that Sgt. Johnson isn't actually old enough to have a friend who was an invesitgator 30 years ago. I can't see a bunch of 13 year olds having a crush on a guy who's around the age of 50, no matter how hot he it.

Who knows. Today we were discussing a wrestling coach at my old high school, and my mom thought he was in his 40s when he is actually in his 70s. Maybe his police work keeps him in shape.
