I like the Kishis too. i think a lot of Claudia's issues with her family were in her head.

In every book, the narrator tells us that Claudia's parents don't approve of junk food or Nancy Drew books, but do we ever really hear Mr. or Mrs. Kishi talking about how evil these things supposedly are?

It is funny because whenever they describe breakfast in Claudia's books, it is always waffles, blueberry pancakes, and one time I read it was cinnamon rolls! Those don't sound like healthy breakfast foods to me!

There are worse things than blueberry pancakes though. Sound so good!

Oh I absolutely LOVE blueberry pancakes, but none of those things sound like something her strict parents who forbid junk food of any type would allow in the house! Surely not cinnamon rolls!

They actually seemed more supportive of Claudia near the end. There was one I really liked them in (I think it was #101, but I'm not sure....)

I never thought that they were as horrible as Claudia let on. Of course, I remember when I was 13 and thought my parents were SO unfair. So I can't really say much.

In Claudia Kishi, Middle School Dropout, Claud is failing math and pretty much everything else so badly she can't keep up. And yet, the Kishis agree to let her take an advanced art class as "motivation" for working hard at school. What? That doesn't sound strict and awful to me!

For the most part, they weren't strict. I thought it was odd that she had to hide her Nancy Drew books, though. Wouldn't it be better for her to read them than for her to read nothing at all?
