I only remember the cover where she is saying farewell to Kristy.

Although, I've never read this book, I can sympathize with Karen and Andrew. I know Karen and Andrew were just getting adjusted to spending more time at the big house.

So, anyone who's actually read it? Scout the guide dog's in this one. I felt really bad for Andrew in the end. I think Karen left too soon anyway, and should have at least tried out the new school.
Hilarious that she was going to leave a skull and crossbones keep out sign in her room and found a friendly "welcome to my room" one in Chicago. But at least Karen crumpled up her note, that's improvement!
Speaking of notes, loved the ones Hannie and Nancy left on Karen's desks:
Remember. In 1871, Chicago had a big fire. The city burned to the ground. Watch out! This could happen again.
BEWARE! A lot of mean gangsters have lived in Chicago.

I am assuming they get Scout around the same time that Andrew and Karen move to Chicago (and then Karen ultimately comes back).

I felt bad for Karen when at the beginning she couldn't decide whether to stay or to go (though it was obvious from the title that she was moving). It was sweet of Karen's class to give her a good-bye party and I liked Pamela's card (granted it was the only one that we were told what was written on it).
I was surprised to read that Karen and her family drove to Chicago. I guess it must've been cheaper to drive to Chicago than to buy four airline tickets. Also, when they finally got to Chicago, I liked reading about the places they visited since I would like to visit Chicago one day. I wish Karen gave the school a chance. She might've ended up liking like it.

It's fun reading this book. Them going to places, in Chicago.
We went to outside of Chicago. But we didn't do much. Just mostly stayed at hotel. Going to this church building. We did went out to a restaurant to eat. I remember they had stuff animals on the high shelf, in the restaurant.
Karen, only wanted to go. Cause, who else will take care of Andrew, when he got scared? But, spending time in Chicago, she didn't like it. What her parents & step parents should have said, If you don't like living in Chicago, you can lived with your big family back in Stoneybrook.

The whole moving to Chicago for six months doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Why unsettle your children lives that way? Moving to Chicago, then moving back to Stoneybrook?? Children need stabilisation, not to be uprooted from the town they grew up in and move to a big city they didn't know for six months. Seth should have just said no to the project he didn't think about his step kids at all.
Karen and Andrew should have stayed with Watson for six months. They already stayed there for a month. What's six months?

I never understood the six months thing for Dawn either. The BSC team seemed to latch onto this idea as a reasonable custody arrangement. Nobody in real life would entertain such a weird idea.
My husband's work sometimes takes him out of town for unusually long stretches and I've always stayed behind because of my job. It sucks being away from your family for so long, but people do it all the time and having to move twice in a year sucks worse.
