Hi, I'm Mary. I like the BSC and eating brownie batter. I've been reading these books since I was 7 and now I am almost 14. Really? Is that normal? Were they in a 'too high' grade? I don't really know anything about the American 'grading' systems

Well, in Washington the cutoff date to get in to the next grade is August 31, which means that you have to be born before then to get into a grade, unless you skip a grade or something. I was born in September, so I should be in 8th grade but I'm not.

Oh, right! In that case, wouldn't Mary Anne (she turns 13 in the 8th grade) have to be "kept behind", too? Or maybe it's different in CT. I know it is here - I think the date is october 1. I'm happy it is, too, because I was born in september

In Nova Scotia, the cutoff date is October 1, which would mean that Abby would be in Grade Seven instead of Grade Eight. I'm in New Brunswick now, but I don't know what the cutoff date is here.
