I always liked Kristy & MA. Even though they might not be as close as they once were, they know that they will always have each other and have some kind of connection. They remind me of me & one of my best friends. We used to be super close, but we have branched out more now. At the end of the day, we know we still have each other, though.
Other than that, Mallory & Jessi.

To add to what others have said, I could see Krist drifting apart more from Mary Anne in high school and becoming better friends with Abby. I could also see Stacey drifting apart from Claudia and forming a lasting bond with Dawn

To add to what others have said, I could see Krist drifting apart more from Mary Anne in high school and becoming better friends with Abby. I could also see Stacey drifting apart from Claudia and forming a lasting bond with Dawn Agreed - I always liked the Stacey/Dawn friendship, and thought that Kristy and Abby would start spending more time together during high school and branch off from the club. If Dawn had stayed in Stoneybrook, I like to think that she, Stacey and Claudia would have been part of the same 'clique' - maybe not the coolest girls in school, but pretty popular nonetheless. I also think Mary Anne might have been part of this group, too, as she and Dawn would also be tied due to being stepsisters, and she seemed relatively close to Stacey and Claudia (at least in the earliest books). I know a lot of people think Stace/Claud would drift apart quite quickly, but I have a strange fondness for their friendship, and really liked any time we got to see them properly interacting. It was based on shallow things like fashion and being OMGsophisticated - but lots of friendships start off like that. And they supported each other in books like Perfect Boy and Goodbye Stacey, so there must have been some genuine closeness there. Then again, I've heard that they fall out in the FF series and never really make up, so... there goes my theory.

My vote was for Kristy and Mary Anne, as they seem to have to the strongest bond. I mean, they have their arguments and perhaps they did drift away from each other during the series but like u4me said, at the end of the day they still have each other. Runner up choices Jessi and Mallory

My favorite would probably be Dawn and Mary Anne. I love Dawn and like Mary Anne and the friendship they have, I find nice and normal. Keep in mind my book collection kind of stops at 58 and I dont have Island Adventure so I dont get to see them fight much, #31 aside.
I've always felt young for my age. I'm 17 but people say I look like I'm 12-14 and all my friends are Freshman/Sophomores. Mary Anne and Dawn's friendship felt similar to ones I've had so I liked being able to relate.
since I didn't read much past 58, I dont know how Mary Anne was when Dawn left and when Abby came along. I kept thinking that Kristy would get closer to Abby and it would be Mary Anne's turn to be what Kristy had once been to M&D's relationship.

My favorite best friend pair was always Kristy and Mary Anne. I liked the fact that their friendship went back so far and they were still very close. I think they will always have some sort of bond.

^ Definitely agree about liking Kristy and MA for those reasons. I have a few friends like them who I'll always share a bond with. No matter how long it's been since we've last talked, I still feel close with them as soon as we do again.

I would never say Stacey and Claudia because their friendship is so superficial. They're friends because they're so cool and sophisticated and like to shop. I can't see that friendship lasting, it's not rooted in anything real. I agree,Stacey and Claudia's friendship is so superficial. I voted for Kristy and Mary Anne, because they're really close and they've been best friends since they were babies. And there was this moment which was really touching, when Dawn and MA announced(at the club meeting)that they're going to be stepsisters. Mary Anne knew that Kristy was really hurt so she inserted a little paper in the pocket of Kristy's jeans saying that she'll always be Mary Anne's first best friend and no one can ever change that. It was really touching, that I cried.

^ I always liked that note, too, and wish they would have developed Kristy and MA's relationship more. They seemed to focus more on MA and Dawn, I guess because they were sisters too.

^I agree. But,I think even though Mary Anne and Dawn are already sisters, that's no reason to forget writing about Kristy and Mary Anne's friendship.

I said Mary Anne and Kristy too. I know Kristy mentioned in one book that she can see the two of them still friends at 85 or something, sitting side-by-side in rockers on the porch. I have to admit, I'm writing a Ship Manifesto on Livejournal about Kristy and Mary Anne, so I'm always on the lookout for quotes and scenes that show how close they are. Kristy talks a lot about how much she cares about Mary Anne and how they'll always be friends. There's one quote in "Mind Your Own Business, Kristy!" that's something like "You know the song Wind Beneath My Wings? That's how I feel about Mary Anne". I love that one.

I like Kristy and Mary Anne's friendship too. I think that they are good opposites. What Mary Anne does not have (speaking out) Kristy does, and what Kristy doesn't have (ability to be quiet) Mary Anne can usually make the things she says better. This goes on and on! I just love that they grew up next to each other and that Kristy helped Mary Anne be more daring.

^ I like how Kristy always stuck up for MA. This is really clear in the portrait books, which I always like because of Kristy and MA's relationship as kids in them. Bringing Dawn into the books kind of made us see less of MA and Kristy together, I think, but I wish it wouldn't have.

I think Kristy and Mary Anne. They are both very loyal to each other.

Kristy and MA. Despite Dawn, not a fan of hers at all, I think MA knows she is still closer to Kristy. Doesn't she even say in one book that K is the person who knows her best? As others have said so well, when all is said and done the two of them know they can count on another and that means everything. I wish we had seen more of just the two of them hanging out together. The thread about nontraditional best friend pairs..eg Kristy/Claudia got me thinking exactly when did Kristy and MA hang out together?
In one work they were working on a school project and that was why they couldn't do something for a mystery I believe. During one of the many times Dawn was about to move and MA was mad at her for it, MA ran off to K's for the night, and MA comes to visit K in K and the Vampires. When else?
