I always have to be difficult, so I'll say one that isn't listed. Kristy and Claudia. I think they were the closest outside of the assigned pairings and I think they "got" each other best. Claudia's goofiness balanced out Kristy's strictness in a more interesting way than Kristy pushy/Mary Anne push over. And anyway, why is Mary Anne the only one who gets two best friends plus a steady boyfriend? She's not that great.
If I have to pick from the list I'll say Mallory and Jessi. Although Mallory was a bit too dependent on Jessi IMO.

Kristy and Mary Anne. I like that they've been friends for so long.

Okay so I know you should take friendship during good and bad times, but I chose Claudia and Stacey because during the good times I really thought their friendship was charming. Yes it had superficial qualities, but I'm pretty sure my friendships in middle school were based on NKOTB and having a group of friends that liked different members than me! Shocking that none of those friends are in my life anymore....hahaha sad

jessi and mallory were so sweet together. out of all the best friend pairs, they are the ones who seem to communicate the best. their relationship reminds me so much of my best friend and me.

I'm going to sound like a broken record but - Kristy and Mary Anne.
I feel like no matter how their lives turn out, they will always care about each other and retain some kind of special bond/connection. I like to "pretend" their friendship strengthens in high school. I guess that's not really realistic but it bothers me we don't "see" it more in the series.
