Oh, okay. Your post made it sound like the bands were real. I nearly had a heart attack at the idea that the books would use real bands other than The Beatles.

mmm... i remember i loved stacey as a kid. i even called her "stace" when talking about her as if she was my friend or something xD. i guess she was all i wanted to be, like, super cool, and dont forget sophisticated&distant. those adjectives always went (go??) together when i mentioned stacey.
now i have a friend who kind of reminds me of Stacey. except she's not blonde, or from new york^^.. but you get the idea.

It's mostly oldies, with Hanson as a reference. Maybe Madonna was referenced, too. Would it have been so hard to mix it up a little, though? I'm sure someone listened to U2, Smashing Pumpkins or Jewel (during the BSC timeframe). I know it's been talked about before, but I think it's just too unrealistic that EVERYONE in Stoneybrook loved oldies soooo much.

^ I do understand why there weren't more pop culture references. But I don't remember it as everyone liking oldies - just a few mentions of parents liking them, really. Abby, too, but that makes sense to me since I used to (and still do ;D) like the oldies more than the "cool" stuff ;D, even when I was a teenager. I also think this was something that the girls could share with their parents - another reason I liked the oldies. ;D

Stacey is one of those characters where she had moments where I liked her and others where I didn't. I loved her relationship with Charlotte, they were too sweet and it really brought out Stacey's compassionate side how she always cared so much for her. I also liked when she stood up for herself and put her foot down with her parents and told them not to treat her like she was made of glass. I thought she handled that in a very mature way.
However, she had her downsides. She was horrible to Mary Anne in Mary Anne Saves the Day (come to think of it, everyone was in that book lol). She was horrible in Boy Crazy Stacey, and I've noticed a trend that whenever she's on vacation, she goes into b*tch mode (Boy Crazy Stacey, her blowing up at Claudia on the USA road trip). She also carried herself with a, "I'm better than everyone except Claudia but even then!" attitude. Stacey, being from NY does not make you sophisticated and fancy. I should know...I'm originally from NY! lol. And I know a lot of people from NY who are not sophisticated at all.
It always irritated me whenever she was in Manhattan and would hit up all the touristy spots. I understand in New York, New York everyone wanted to see all that, but she should have found some nice cafe in the Village or a tiny art museum like the Frick to take everyone too and impress them.
Reading the books again, I see all the diabetes stuff in a different light. My mother was diagnosed a few years ago, and while she has to test herself everyday and do injections, she won't die if she has a little bit of sugar. She's supposed to have some, and when she has gone over the limit, nothing's happened to her. Though when she was first diagnosed she said it was "Just like Stacey from the Babysitters Club" hahahah.

Yes! I always felt this way myself. Welcome to the boards, by the way.

I always enjoyed reading about Stacey's relationships with the sitters other than Claudia (since there was quite a bit about her and Claudia - liked that, too, just liked the other as something different ;D) I especially would have liked seeing more interaction between her and Kristy, Mal and Jessi.
