I never liked Stacey because in my mind she was always the popular, pretty one of the BSC and as a life-long nerd I could never relate to her. But I did like reading about Stacey because her books made me think that maybe the popular, pretty girls go through some of the same things as us nerdy plain janes. I especially loved reading Stacey's Big Crush and how she totally humiliates herself over Wes!

I have to say I'm thankful that I didn't make too much of a fool of myself when I had that crush. He was one of the youth leaders at church, and I guess one of the female leaders figured out that I had a crush and talked to me about it before I made myself look foolish (very wise of her, on several fronts.) Years and years later I realized that my friend's little brother had that crush on me, so I knew to be gentle and to ignore the crush. However, it wasn't as easy as that, because the friend, their mother, and I all worked together, and when little brother was around some of the other gals in the office teased him about it. Sigh. People aren't nice sometimes.

Ooh, so much word on crushes on much-too-older church leaders. Bleh. Embarrassing for me to look back on, now. But I always crushed on people too old for me, probably in some way to know that it could never possibly happen in some sort of subconscious auto-protection. I was also in the situation where a friend's younger brother had a crush on me, but I ignored it. I don't think it was ever really brought up, though my friend and I discussed it, a little amused.

I've never had a crush on a church leader, thankfully. I have had plenty of crushes on professors and teachers though. Also politicians.

When I was fifteen I went to Brasil with a group for the martial arts I was into and developed a crush on someone who was 24. Luckily, I had enough sense then, to know that nothing would be able to come of it!

I don't really enjoy rereading Stacey's Big Crush precisely because she humiliates herself in it. Maybe I'm alone in thinking this, but it just seems really off that Stacey would unashamedly present a love poem she wrote to her teacher. Sure, she can write one -- that's realistic. But actually giving it to him did not seem in keeping with her character. She is usually more cool and collected than that.

She really did the same thing in #8, anyway.

I used to have a crush on my teacher when I was 15 years old. I'm not sure how old he was - in his twenties, anyhow. He'd just gotten married and had a little baby, so I knew, of course, that I could never be with him or anything like that. I knew that he was too old, anyway. I just hid it. The crush died away but I still love that teacher, he was one of the funniest, nicest teachers I've ever had. But anyway. I always liked Stacey, even though I also would be more of a Mallory or Mary Anne. I thought that mostly, she was pretty nice (probably helped that I didn't read Stacey vs the BSC, or any of the like, when I was a kid!) but she did seem to care a lot about the kids, like when she told Charlotte she would babysit for her even if her parents had no money to pay Stacey (I liked that part, thought it was sweet and generally she did seem like a nice person. It's like this girl who used to be one of my good friends - I thought she was stuck up, but actually, she was really nice, and a lot more like me and my friends than the snobby cheerleaders of the school (no offense to any cheerleaders here!). Sadly, we haven't talked in a while, but she is a really nice person .. er.. usually. lol. ANYWAY! haha.

This question doesn't have much to do with Stacey, but I didn't know where else to put it, so: In a few of the Stacey books, like 'Stacey and the Mystery Money' and 'Haunted Masquerade,' her English teacher is Mr. Fiske, right? And he wears weird ties or something? Did the books ever mention his first name? I keep thinking Nick for some reason, but I think that's Mr. Prezzioso's name. Also, were we ever told the deputy principal's (Mr. Kingbridge) first name? Any help is appreciated, and thanks.

Deputy principal- is that like vice principal, or a substitute?
