I didn't notice it until I did a marathon rereading a couple of weeks ago. Amazing what jumps out at you when you read a bunch of the books at once...

^ ;D That happens to me, too. I think in a lot of cases, the frequent references to Ann’s favorite things are because when she is writing the drafts, she doesn’t slow down to worry about details and just puts in the first that pops into her mind. Then they don’t go back and edit and change it, though. Maybe I’m wrong and it is more of a conscious effort to include her obsessions but I see it more as overlooking the lack of attention to details that were included “off the top of her head,” and it makes sense those would be her favorite things.

It does make sense...the working names of Abby and Anna were Lucy and Ethel if I'm not mistaken.

I think that's a good theory aln. It would be interested to see the percentage of ann's obsessions included in the ghostwritten books and in the ones she wrote and to see the difference.

That would be interesting. I wonder, too, if the ghost writers might assume it's concious so try to include the references on purpose to keep consistency. That is also possible.... I'm thinking way too much about these things. ;D

I wonder if Ann especially liked Porky Pig. Stacey loved him and did an imitation of his voice, and all the kids in school called Tess (from Stacey's Secret Friend) "Petunia" after his girlfriend.

^ I always found that funny. ;D Didn't she have a stuffed pig in her room or am I imagining that?

Never thought of that. Now I wonder if Ann does a Porky Pig imitation.

When I started reading the BSC books again a few years ago, I was surprised at how many Oz references there were - I didn't pick up on that as a kid. Now I associate the two of them really strongly. I bet Stacey and MA (with their mutual love of New York) would die to see Wicked on Broadway, and Claudia would get into Pink Floyd because of the Dark Side of the Moon connection.

I hate Pink Floyd, so I've never done it. But I bet people who smoke a lot of weed think it's totally amazing and freaky.

I've done it. It takes forever to set it up just right, plus you have to have the right version...
