Yeah, it doesn't really make that much sense to me. Half of my relatives graduated early, and none of them had 197 IQs like Janine. Perhaps the motivation was that if Janine graduated early and went to college, she wouldn't have gone to as good a school if she stayed in school and graduated as Scholar of the Decade?

It might have been interesting if Janine had been an early high school graduate right at the beginning of the series, was away at college, and was shown coming back to visit occasionally.
She did seem socially awkward, but maybe she'd do better at college. I did better socially in college than high school; it was a lot easier to find people with common interests.

I always thought that Janine's intelligence was slightly dramatized for effect

I had posted this earlier in the thread about Rosie Wilder but it fits better here. I really don't see why Janine needed to be kept at home for all 13 years of 8th grade. She must have been bored stiff at SHS. Really what was the point of her taking classes at high school while being enrolled in some (probably) of their more advanced university counterparts? As we sadly know, Janine had very few "live" exchanges she had with Claudia and her family. I am just thinking of this now but Claudia and Janine might have been better friends had Janine gone to college early. The same could also be said about Claudia having a better relationship with her parents. The only other reason, for keeping Janine home is to make it a teeny bit plausible that Rioko and John never noticed the many times Claudia was in danger of failing. I don't buy that for a second, just trying to think like one of the Ghosties.

If Janine really had an IQ of 196, it would be possible that she was the smartest woman in the world. I think the smartest man in the world had an IQ of like 200 or something.
Anyway...Janine should have graduated college with a Ph.d by like nine year years old!

I just don't think they really knew the IQ scales. I didn't either until I just looked it up after I read the posts in this thread. According to this site: www.free-iqtest.net/iq-score-guide.asp someone between 160 and 175 is an extraordinary genius which is probably Janine. Intelligence Interval Cognitive Designation 40 - 54 Severely challenged (Less than 1% of test takers) 55 - 69 Challenged (2.3% of test takers) 70 - 84 Below average 85 - 114 Average (68% of test takers) 115 - 129 Above average 130 - 144 Gifted (2.3% of test takers) 145 - 159 Genius (Less than 1% of test takers) 160 - 175 Extraordinary genius Although I don't know how accurate that site is. I've never done and an IQ test before because it kind of scares me. I have a learning disability so I'll probably have a low one. But I also don't know how accurate an online one is. Some people have told me they've taken several and end up with different results. I'm not sure where you would go for a real IQ test.

I guess Claudia is probably around 115-129 then. Unless Janine's IQ is really 196, it is possible that she's on the extraordinary genius level. She sounds around 160ish, anyway.

^I took it and scored 126. I'm just gonna go with that cause it sounds good. That test was mostly math sequences.

I took online IQ tests before even though they are not totally accurate. I usually get above average or a high average.

I got 96. I'm average. But, when I took a test with a real doctor. I'm above average.

I never took a real IQ test by a doctor before. I always wondered what's my IQ. But I'd probably be average.

IQ tests also test a very specific kind of intelligence.

I got 133. I've never taken an actual IQ test, but I know the IQ of some of my family members and that is about what I'd expect mine to be.
