Ann really stayed away from the pop culture references so whenever I see one I get a kick out of it. I just finished Claudia and the Perfect Boy, and someone who answered Claudia's ad asked her if she looked like Paula Abdul. Hee. Then the phony ad Stacey made was from some guy who looked just like Jason Priestly. This led to a funny conversation among the club members where "Jason Priestly" was said like fifteen times in a page and a half.
Besides The Wizard of Oz, I Love Lucy, and the book/author mentions, are there any pop culture references that you noticed or thought were funny?

The one about Princess Diana and Minnie Mouse! I can't remember who/what they were talking about but at the time I thought it was humorous.

In "Keep Out Claudia" -- didn't 2 of the kids sing a song from Aladdin? I know that the Lion King was also mentioned.
And in "The Ghost @ Dawn's House" the girls are picking movies to watch -- Ghostbusters, Sixteen Candles, Parent Trap, Mary Poppins (guess who liked that?), and something else, I think.
In "Dawn's Big Date", Norman Hill's sister likes The Little Mermaid.
That's all I can remember!

^Claudia wanted to watch Star Wars.
There are lots of Pop Culture References. They are currently being compiled on the BSC Wiki, so anyone who wants to help should totally go sign up!

Ann also loved The Twilight Zone. Those girls are always humming the theme song.

There was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reference in Mary Anne and Camp BSC, I had to look over it a couple of times to see that i was seeing what I thought I was seeing.

Oh that movie is so terrible! I got it for free with my season 5 DVDs. I remember renting it in 6th grade and learning the cheers. And my friends trying to dress up like buffy. Better then the year one of my friends tried to dress up like Sarah Jessica Parker in Hocus Pocus. Seriously - she told everyone she was SJP.

HANSON in Stacey Mcgill...Matchmaker?
I loved that book for that reason.
That's also the book that made me hate Stacey. U4ME over Hanson? Puh-lease!

I wasn't into that kind of music back then (or now ;D) so am not positive. ;D I know Hanson was real, though, even though I never listened to them. ;D

I think Buffy is also mentioned in one of the California Diaries. Also When Harry Met Sally, and a couple of other movies I can't remember. References to Gone with the Wind were in a few books. The Shining is in Winter Vacation. TV shows: Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and The Cosby Show.
I always found the Jason Priestley references really funny! He is also mentioned in Stacey vs. the BSC. Other actors that were mentioned: Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, and Cary Grant. Musicians: Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, and Sting.
