I was just thinking about this the other day. Most of the dads barely get mentioned. If you look at the Complete Guide to the BSC, you'll see that the fathers of most BSC charges hardly have any description. A line or two at most, while the mothers usually have a full paragraph. Like Mr. Hobart's description. All it says is "From Australia." Nothing else. Did we ever really "meet" Mr. Hobart in the series? Now that I think about it, I don't recall it. Just Mrs. Hobart. Without looking at my guide and simply going from my own memory of reading the books themselves, the most detail I can remember being given about a dad-client was Mr. Hill. He looked like Mr. Clean, just joined a health club, worked out of the home (I think). I'm not counting the dads who are also fathers of any of the BSC members, since we would naturally hear more about them. Well, Mr. Johannsen (charlotte's dad), Mr. Newton (Jaime's dad) show up a lot. It seems as though both parents from the earlier part of the series were more expanded upon, but as more ghost writers came in we focused less on the parents and more on the sitters and their charges. It's easier to mention one parent than both.

Mr. P., also; at least we know he wasn't as fussy as his wife.

Mr. Pike seems pretty involved.

Can I joing the fun? Here are some of my theories:
The Stevenson adults hated each other (stooneybrookite does a great post about it.) I bet there's more of a reason that Rachel uprooted her daughters from Long Island to Stoneybrook without a peep from the daughters. Another theory of mine is Rachel was having an affair with her assistant (and could conversely explain why we don't really know how John got killed- was it a truck driver or a drunk driver?).
DM is a half brother. The father is not Richard. That's why Patrick left. Watson and Elizabeth met WAY after the divorce.
Maureen is a lesbian. (She is the only adult except Rachel, who came in too late, that we don't see married, or at least dating.) A reason the marriage broke up?
Mallory is going through an ugly phase. Once puberty is done she'll look more like her siblings.
Has anyone ever wondered why it goes Shannon, Tiffany, then Maria? My theory is that Maria is the redheaded stepchild of the milkman.

What do you mean about the Kilbournes?

This is what I believe wenonah was referring to when she said "what about the Kilbournes."
I think otempora541 may be thinking about a point raised in the snark of Stacey and the Cheerleaders over at the livejournal community bsc_snark. It's mentioned that the name Maria doesn't really seem to fit in with the names Shannon and Tiffany, because the latter two names are more typical of what you'd see in a rich white family, while Maria sounds more...ethnic, I guess. Also, Maria is described as not looking like either of her sisters, while Shannon and Tiffany both look similar to each other.

Maria could be a family name. Maria is a name found in lots of languages.

^^America is composed of many different backgrounds and cultures. To me, it only makes sense that there would be people to name their kids names that all come from different backgrounds. Quite honestly, I wasn't even aware that Shannon was an Irish name, although I knew Maria was a Spanish name.

Let's see...my name is either Latin or English, depending on where you look. My sister's name is Greek, and both my brother's names are Hebrew. I definitely have to disagree that families give all their kids names from the same background!

Maria is not just a Spanish name. I believe Maria is Maria in most European languages except French and English.

Two of my brothers have Hebrew names, one's name is Greek, and my other brother and I both have English names. They chose them because they liked them, not because they're all from the same background.
It's just another case of her posting without thinking.

I'm a Maria myself (but that's because I'm Russian speaking.) I guess my point is that Maria seems to stick out from the Kilbournes. Maybe it's because I'm looking for scandel?
