I know this sounds terrible, but I would have liked to have seen the girls have to deal with a serious illness or injury - I know Claudia broke a leg, Mal had mono, Abby had asthma, but I would have liked to have seen them deal with something serious - one of them having a terrible accent, or developing a life threatning disease. A terrible accent? sorry made me LOL

I am pretty sure diabetes can kill you. Although it can be controlled, I still see it as a life-threatening disease. I do think that it would have been interesting to see a serious injury but when I was little a broken leg seemed pretty bad.

Honestly, I would really like to see the series restarted kind of, but with the girls in high school and more of a California Diaries feel to them -- more serious storylines. And I definitely wouldn't mind some new characters.

My aunt has it and has almost died several times, including once at the Eiffel tower. Fun vacation….. ;D She is also legally blind from complications from her diabetes and has had too many other complications to mention – many life threatening. I am not sure what the words “token sick kid” mean but I get tired of hearing them when referring to the books. Yes, diabetes is “manageable” but it is a horrible, awful thing to deal with for any kid or adult. I have always liked that the early Stacey books give chronically ill kids a character to relate to – they need this. I’m sorry to sound so defensive but this is a very sensitive subject for me. My aunt suffers from Type I diabetes (like Stacey) and I have worked with many kids with it and have seen the suffering they have to endure from this “manageable illness.”

I wasn't trying to belittle the disease in anyway, so I apologise if it came across like that I know it can be fatal and I am sorry to here of the experiences some of you have had I just meant it would have been interesting to see how they would have dealt with a main character having a brush with death really. Greer - silly typo on my part, LOL. Forgive me, one of those days - had an Abby-style allergy attack earlier and my brain is not working.

^ I understand. Sorry to sound so defensive but I am sensitive to the subject (like I said ;D) and think that people who don't have to deal with a chronic illness really can't grasp the full magnitude of how it impacts the lives of those who have them. Even then, everyone with an illness is different. I also think that the books sometimes do a good job of dealing with Stacey's illness but forget about it when it's convenient. Another topic, though. ;D I would like to see a relationship for Stacey's mom, too. Also might be interesting to see her parents get back together (or at least try) as I know that would be far fetched but does happen in some situations. (And I wish divorce didn't exist so would love to see them make up and be actually happy the next time ;D) Would also like to see more of the Kishi parents as characters.

^What do you want to be mentioned? You know, I'm starting to figure out why the series was cancelled. There really aren't that many more plots left. I want to see a super special where they go to Tokyo. What's another trip -- it's not as if they haven't spent months of 8th grade on vacation.. I would like more development of the existing relationships - especially different friend combos with the girls in the club and more interaction between them and their parents and between each other's parents. Also bringing back some of the once-used clients, more use of underused clients and more vacations would be nice, too. ;D I wouldn't mind a few more US vacations. International ones either. ;D A military family might be interesting but only if it was set in the past because like I said, I read the BSC for nostalgia of a time that was better in my life. ;D That's why I read them too

I'd like to see different baby-sitting plots. It seems like a lot of them are reused and recycled again in different books.

^ I wish it would have been Cokie and MA would have got fed up and punched her or something. ;D (Though I can see Kristy doing this, too, in MA's defense. ;D)

When I said 'token sick kid,' I did not mean it to be of any offence to the disease and I'm sorry if it has. A friend of mine has diabetes as well as my uncle and I know how highly serious it is. I was referring more to the formulaic way children's books in particular are often written. Writers and publishers often have a 'token' character (as it is often described) in order that children who face different issues can relate to the character. Stacey did begin the series as the one who is ill, Kristy as the one with a 'broken' family, Claudia as the one who struggles with school and MA as the one with a deceased parent. This changed and developed as the series progressed, but that is how it began as a basis.

^ Thanks for explaining. I wasn't angry with you for using the word (sorry if I sounded defensive and sorry about your uncle and friend - it's an awful disease) just am never sure what the word means. I guess I don't see it like that because I think the characters are just representative. With that approach, every character could be considered "token" (in my opinion ;D)
