I'm told it's possible though I haven't tried, to use baking soda in place of deoderant.

baking soda and peroxide is what they used before crest. I much prefer my cinnamon flavored crest with whitening to anything else.

I actually do use straight baking soda for my teeth a lot of the time.

^how does that even work? Do you dip your brush in the powder, or do you mix it up to make a paste? My mom told me about it, but she didn't explain the logistics. It sounds mostly hygienic, not like the lady on wife swap (or trading spouses, i get them mixed up all the time) who brushed her teeth with a butter/clay mixture.

^I think the point was that it didn't. Those were really gross people. I'm looking for a youtube of the mom, because you could tell by her teeth that it didn't work really well. They also ate raw chicken and raw beef, and never washed anything.

It sounds mostly hygienic, not like the lady on wife swap (or trading spouses, i get them mixed up all the time) who brushed her teeth with a butter/clay mixture. I keep a closable container full of baking soda on the counter and wet the toothbrush, then dip it in. I tried mixing a paste but found I kind of wasted some by doing it that way. It works pretty well. I never have had the prettiest teeth, regardless of what I've used, though.

Sorry to drag it back to the issue of Elizabeth moving in with Watson issue, but the more I think about it the more it just screams "plot contrivance" rather than a moral one. I mean, even considering the fact that they were both divorced and most certainly not virgins, even if they didn't feel it proper to share a bedroom... it's a frikkin mansion! What, Elizabeth couldn't have slept in another room or something? Some plot contrivances just make my brain hurt.
And going back to sex ed (this is what I get for being too busy to check in with the boards... d**n you school work!), even more appalling that abstinence-only is when any mention of female pleasure is omitted altogether! My high school biology textbook didn't even mention the clitoris for crying out loud, and from the way it was written you'd think only guys have orgasms. In my ideal sex ed curriculum girls would be taught that they shouldn't waste their time with any guy who thinks that her pleasure is unimportant. And that is my rant for the evening.

One thing that startles me is that with all the mentions of bras, deoderant, etc, I don't recall any mention of shaving one's legs.

^^She shaved her legs for Bart? What were they going to be doing that he'd be touching her legs? (No offense to any other late bloomers, if there are any here. I don't mean you're not normal, I guess, I mean you're not average.) I was a pretty late bloomer, too, although not quite as late as 16. But even so, I don't really talk about it, so it doesn't bother me that the BSC doesn't. Plus, I was like 6 when I read these books.
