Period and boobs go hand in hand, so it's sort of weird they were never mentioned. Not necessarily. I got small boobs at 13, filled out to 34B by 10th grade, but didn't get my actual period until a couple of months before my 18th birthday. I'm the latest bloomer I have ever heard of. I seriously thought something was really wrong with me...but at the same time I wouldn't have wanted to read about the BSC girls getting theirs. It would have made me feel even worse about myself. I liked that they never got theirs.

In Stacey's Emergency she mentions puberty and zits and all that fun stuff. At first I was like, "ah HA!" but there was no mention of periods.
BTW, I didn't get mine until I was 14. I had just come home from school and I thought I was going to get in trouble for getting it (My mom had a tendency to overreact to stuff)

I got my period when I was 12, and I hated it. I always hurt really badly, so...yeah. I hate having a period.
For some reason, this discussion made me remember a Sweet Valley Twins book (I can't remember the name) when Elizabeth gets her period and Jessica doesn't at first. Funny how you randomly think about things, huh?

^ I hardly ever read SV, but I remember that one! Didn't Jessica pretend to have hers, and didn't she have to confess later when she actually got it when they were on a bus or a train or something?

I don't remember that in SVT but I didn't read all those. I do remember my twin sister got hers 6 months before mine and she never told me until I finally got mine and I thought it was so weird she'd gotten hers first.

Speaking of puberty, I was just pondering the other day (I feel super lame for pondering this stuff...) they mention (especially in the earlier books) how Stacey is sooooooooo skinny, and it's also mentioned in passing that Stacey is the most developed boob-wise. Doesn't this seem unlikely?

At the camps I've been to, I know the forms parents fill out include a blank (in reference to girls, obviously) asking if a girl is aware of menstruation. Imagine starting it away at camp or school!

nah. i mean, some girls have big boobs cause their boobs are pretty much all fat, but there definitely are skinny girls with big boobs. it's genetic. when i lose weight i don't generally lose it from my boobs.

Funny how you randomly think about things, huh? I must have missed that book in the SVT series. I was never a huge fan of the series, but I read quite a few of the books when I was younger. I'd like to hear how Jessica handled that situation! (She really annoyed me; she and Lila were the reason that I could not stand the series after awhile.) If you do remember the title, please tell me! Random Shy Girl

I think it's something like Jessica's Secret.

Well even though Stacey is the most developed, I don't consider her to actually have BIG boobs or anything. I just imagine the others to be pretty much completely flat and probably not actually even needing a bra.

I've been on the pill too for my menstrual cycle to control them...they're horrible!!!!! This is gonna sound weird but I just recently started using tampons. My friend's cousin had toxic shock syndrome from wearing them and it scared me away from them for a long time.

^I know a lot of women aren't comfortable wearing tampons. You have to get them in just right otherwise it'll hurt like hell. ;D I personally prefer them but I can understand why some women wouldn't.

wow toxic shock syndrome is really rare these days... i personally can't imagine wearing pads... it'd be like walking around in a diaper.
