Me too. I often found it funny how she seemed to have fun. If you can't beat them, join them I guess.

I always found it odd that Elizabeth wouldn't let Charlie have one measly glass of wine. I guess it's 'cause in the UK, the drinking age is 18, but even so, a lot of parents let their kids drink below the age, especially at home (to prevent them from rebelling and drinking excessively behind their backs). I just find it weird that Elizabeth tells him that he can't drink until the drinking age of 21... so he has to wait 4 years. I think it would make him more obliged to drink behind her back. Then again, this is coming from the woman who decides to complicate things by rushing her wedding to an insanely earlier date, just so she can be married when she moves in with her husband, instead of logically moving in and waiting until the Autumn to marry

Hahaha. I totally agree. Forbidding him to have a simple glass at home would just heighten the mystery of it.
I just thought of something. After Elizabeth tells Kristy the amount of money she and the BSC will get for sitting for the kids, Sam gets all jealous but she reminds him he has a summer job at the A&P. Did he say he was only bagging groceries or also delivering them? 'Cause he was still fifteen, and wouldn't have had his license yet...

I never caught that, I will have to look that up because now that is going to bug me! Agree about the Charlie drinking wine. When I was 16 my parents let me have a sip of their wine and it was no big deal.

I agree with you guys about the wine thing. He was 17 years old, it's not a big deal! At that age my mom would give me wine when they were having it (usually holidays or big dinners), but I never really liked it. Now, though, mmm! Wine! haha. But seriously, it's not like he was asking for a few shots of tequila.
Oh me too! For some reason that always made me so sad for her, even as a kid.

I agree that it wouldn't have been a big deal for Charlie to have a little wine at 17, but I think it's just another example of how the earlier books reflected the conservative 80s. As another poster pointed out, Elizabeth wouldn't even consider moving in with Watson before the wedding, but by Graduation Day, Stacey acknowledged you don't have to be married to have a baby. And when Dawn's dad first became engaged to Carol, he let Jeff and Dawn have sips of champagne.

Oh me too! For some reason that always made me so sad for her, even as a kid. Ditto. And it always made me sad that even though she gave Karen a goldfish from her pond when she heard about Crystal Light's death, she (I'm pretty sure) kept insisting she was a witch.

Sam is delivering the groceries, booboo, which makes absolutely no sense and I noticed it when I was reading it. He tells Elizabeth/Kristy that he makes a little over $3/hr plus tips.

Good point! On one hand I think it's good that Elizabeth didn't move in with Watson too soon, considering the effect it would have had on the kids if they broke up for whatever reason, but on the other hand there really wasn't any reason not to do it after they'd become engaged. I agree with you, though, it probably is a reflection of the time the books were written in.

^I agree with hitzpink. I think it's good Elizabeth and Watson didn't move in before they were married, I mean how long had they even been dating?! Like 6 months?? Kinda ridiculous to troop your kids to a new house with the man you've only been seeing for a few months (I'm assuming). I mean I know they were planning on getting married anyway, but with kids involved, that's kinda weird to do so beforehand, imo. And I'm not against living together before marriage at all (lived with my ex for a long time) but I can understand where Elizabeth was coming from.

By July, which was the date they had to leave the house for the Perkinses to move in, the Brewers and the Thomases had already known each other for over a year... what I find annoying is why Elizabeth had to be so contrary to move her wedding date back so she'd only have 2 and a half weeks to prepare, when she could have just moved in and waited until October to marry. It wasn't like the families were strangers, they'd known each other for a long time by this point.

Wait, I haven't read this book in a long time. So the Thomases had to be out of their house by July, but Elizabeth and Watson weren't supposed to get married until October? So instead of just moving in together and keeping their original wedding date they pushed it back so they'd get married in July before the Thomases moved in? That's....weird and unnecessary, IMO. I'll have to re-read the book this weekend because I didn't remember this little tidbit of information at all.
