I thought it was said somewhere that Sharon and Richard didn't want kids together.

I never ever thought of this but I would have preferred them to adopt than the Brewers because they may not have had as easy a "Nannie" out with the toddler (or whatever age child). I also wonder if we would have seen said child interact a little more with neighborhood kids if they had. Emily really only had Sari and blah later Skylar. Closer to Bradford Court, there were more "regular" young ones such as Laura, Lucy, Squirt, and even Andrea Prezzioso, who at one time lived next door to the Spiers. That would have been interesting if the two families interacted more due to both having young kids in close proximity. Poor BSC girls might be "forced" into being nicer to Jenny!

Sharon would have lost the baby or left it in the refrigerator. I don't know how Dawn and Jeff survived.

When did Mrs. Gruen come to work for the Schafers?

Mrs. Bruen came to work for the Schafers sometime after Jeff moved back to California. I'm pretty sure the first book she appears in is Dawn on the Coast.

I agree that Sharon and Richard either having or adopting a baby would have been an interesting twist. If they had, maybe Dawn would never have moved back to California?

^Oh no, we...I mean I want her to move! I do wonder if Jeff might have felt more apart of the family assuming he and Dawn were made part of the adoption decision. I was happy that moving back to CA helped him. It just always bothered me how for the most part once he had moved and even Dawn (for good) Sharon seemed to only care/ask about Dawn. Not once did Jeff ever come to CT without Dawn, I mean. Maybe if he had had any type of interest or relationship with the adopted child he might have, and doing so could have made the Spier/Schafer family come across (to me) as more of a close family.

I think if he had any sort of interest or relationship with Sharon then he would have. No reason to drag an unnecessary baby into the mix. I liked that Sharon and Richard didn't feel the need to have their "own" baby in any shape or form. Karen's mom and step-dad were the same way.

^True, to me it was sad (and pathetic) that Sharon seemed to "forget" about her own son.

I know that it was great that Sharon and Richard felt that they didn't need a baby of their own, and that you, zoar, would have preferred that Dawn had moved to California. What I meant is that a new baby in the Schafer-Spier household would have mixed things up a bit. I don't think that Dawn would have moved. if so, she would have moved at a later age. Ann said that she feels that Dawn *would now* be in California, so I'm just going with that.
I do, however, see it as something that Mary Anne and Richard would have embraced.

^A new baby or even older child would definitely have (I would hope) brightened up the dynamic of that family. I would just really hope unlike in the Series (IMO), the four of them, five including Jeff, had become a tiny bit closer, more of a "family," before adopting. I am leaving now before my TB Emily feelings surface. Last night, I was trying to think which family melded or otherwise was in the best place to adopt. I came up with the Ramseys! (Assuming Squirt had been allowed to age) Aside from the Aunt C drama and Jessi being one of the worst about not "bothering" her parents, the Ramseys always seemed close to me. I think Jessi truly was excited when she guessed her dad's big news was about her mom being pregnant (instead of Aunt C moving in). I do think if the TB's had waited a while before adopting and made the kids apart of it, their family could have worked too.

I'm reading the first chapter and Kristy mentions that there's a boring story in the newspaper about a new sewage treatment plant, and I remembered that Stacey made a joke to her father in #43 about taking a tour of the sewage treatment plant. That's within the space of just three books -- is Ann obsessed with sewage treatment plants or something?
