I'm reading the first chapter and Kristy mentions that there's a boring story in the newspaper about a new sewage treatment plant, and I remembered that Stacey made a joke to her father in #43 about taking a tour of the sewage treatment plant. That's within the space of just three books -- is Ann obsessed with sewage treatment plants or something? Did she even write both books?

Also in Baby Parade, Kristy had a little crush on that guy who helped teach the baby care class. When she met his wife and learned he had kids, she said (paraphrasing here) "Then I realized he was just a regular dad whose kids I'd sit for, he'd tell me where the plunger was in case the plumbing backed up, and go to the movies with his wife." ;D

^I thought that was so sweet how Kristy had a crush on Don. He and Anita, the instructor came across as nice people and their son Ethan (I just looked this up) cute. I wish Kristy had sat for them in the future. I had a sort of similar experience (I may have shared on here) with a dad of one of my preschoolers. First time I saw him, I was completely taken aback by how much he looked like Brandon Routh. Over time, he became a regular dad and his wife was always nice to talk with. I remember Carson, aptly named, their son, sort of like Squirt and his red fish, was obsessed with a little yellow toy car. I can imagine Ethan playing with one in this book.

Okay, things get weirder. I'm reading Stacey and the Mystery Ring, which was published the month after this book, and a wrong number calls the Baby-sitters during a BSC meeting. It's someone trying to reach . . . the sewage treatment plant. I am not making this up.
Ellen Miles wrote both #45 and M#1, but Ann wrote #43. Maybe they are both obsessed with sewage treatment plants.

I own this book and I've read most of it years ago but I quit it because it was so awful and I couldn't stand it. Perhaps I should read it fully. For snarky and actual reading moments.

This seems to be an unpopular book around here, but I've always really liked it. I worked on a Homecoming float one year in high school. It was awful with twice as many kids and adult supervisors, so I can see how the BSC girls would bomb out so hard.

I've finished this book the day after my post on the 11th. I forgot to post about it. I thought it wasn't too bad. Sparklymouse, how was the float awful? Anyway, I liked Jenny and Andrea scenes, and I liked that Kristy started feeling more warmth and love to her. Well, just a little likeliness ha ha. Jenny was really sweet, she's a good big sister. the babysitting course was boring. Of course Kristy gets the perfect score. It was cute how Kristy had a crush on one of her teachers then her view on him changed ha ha. It's not like Kristy to notice other guys! I felt bad for Charlie in this one but hey at least he'd gotten more than a brief mention in a chapter 2 he's a great big brother the "lesson" about teamwork and working together and stuff was rubbed in the face. Not very subtle in my opinion. Don't know if that's just me though. Sometimes I have to remind myself the target audience for the BSC is age 7 to 12...

I can't really read this book without cringing too much lol. I wonder why Kristy never had the BSC go to a infant care/first aid like class before. That is generally a requirement now a days if you want to baby-sit.
That float sounded ugly.
The parts with Andrea and Jenny sounded really cute. I like that Andrea won the stroller contest and how Mrs. P loves to show off her daughters lol.
Who were some of the other babies in the contests by any chance? I'd love to see all of them together in another book together, except in a better circumstance lol.

This is my least favourite BSC book. The whole storyline (to me) is ridiculous

Wasn’t expecting to see so much dislike for this book! I loved it! I thought it was hilarious how the BSC become so snarky towards each other and how it escalated. I thought this is so believable of girls at that age - certainly I can speak for myself! I also really enjoyed reading about their infant care course. Of course it was ludicrous that Kirsty trumped everyone, including current mothers. But no one reads these books for their measured take on reality. I loved reading the descriptions of all the other contestants’ floats and go karts - makes you wonder why the BSC’s own ideas were so limited! I would have liked more detail on how Claudia and Mallory began to go down their respective rabbit holes in the work they did - that seemed to happen suddenly and out of nowhere. E.g. Claudia complains about having tried to take everyone’s suggestions onboard, but I don’t recall anyone doing that. I thought the NY theme could have been fun! Finally - poor old long-suffering Charlie!

Finally - poor old long-suffering Charlie! When I first read this book as a kid, all the fighting made me uncomfortable. Now I think it's hilarious! They all got in way over their heads and for once, acted like teenage girls instead of mini-adults. I thought all their float ideas were kind of stupid, though I agree that New York, New York could have been fun. Same with "Babies in Space" - that could have been fun too and I can't believe everyone laughed at Claudia like that was dumbest idea! I did love Stacey calling Mary Anne out for trying to sneak through an excuse to include Tigger on the float. Then, of course, Mary Anne starts to cry. Stacey saw right through her BS XD Doesn't Charlie wear a disguise while he's driving? But, of course, everyone recognizes the Junk Bucket?

I'm rather surprised they needed to take that class since they've taken care of babies before. Doesn't Lucy count as a baby? They've taken care of her since the start of the series.
In two days of the course they become baby experts.
I actually really loath this one.

For all that the BSC complains about Mrs. Prezzioso, she was actually responsible and insisted they take an infant care course before she let them sit for Andrea. Didn't she even offer to pay too? What a good deal!

^Right?! As an adult I'm like "get your free certification, girls!" This looks like nothing to do with a baby parade. Claudia looks like she has a whole apartment. I picture Kristy's feet stinking. I think we have a winner for the best clown costume illustration! It's not that ugly? Good job, Mallory.

She looks insane. I don't know what is going on here. Titles not interesting: Christine and the funny parade (It was...) Kristy and the great parade
