I agree with you, m0drnmoonlight! I think it was going to blow up in Kristy's face.
As for the Makeover Story (sorry, guys, I just saw that you all asked about it), my mom just said it was hectic, annoying, and she never wants to go through it again. I think it was different from Mallory's experience because they were only at my house once and it was all in my mom's bedroom. I can't imagine it being like Mallory's! I would be annoyed to! Plus they cut my mom's hair really short (because she was an 'older' woman) and I didn't like it. Neither did my dad!

Was Peter Lerangis predicting the future, writing about a reality TV show in 1995? This book is probably the only one that's more relevant now (in 2008 with the 9 billion reality shows out there) than it was when it was written! That was one incompetent camera crew. Who yells cut every 10 seconds?
I loved Vanessa's rhymes in this one. "Lamb stew, lamb stew. Start with some herbs, then chop up the ewe." (Is mutton expensive? Unless you're in New Zealand or something. Even if it wasn't, I don't see the Pike kids wanting to dig into it. But they eat Daddy Stew, so maybe.) This may be my favorite Vanessa rhyme ever: (To the tune of O Christmas Tree) "O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree. When I chop you down, don't fall on me. You smell so nice, you look so green. Excuse my axe for being mean..." Heh.
I would like to know what the other club members got Mallory since we know she gave journals. I bet Claudia in particular was like "uh...thanks."

Well, Claudia could use the journal as a sketchbook. She probably gave Mallory non-matching earrings that she made out of papier-mâché, anyway.
I want to reread this book, maybe on the weekend.

This is a really funny book actually...

^This book IS really funny, and not in that weird, over-the-top, Peter Lerangis way, either. It's more just like cute, funny things that kids do/say in real life.

I read this one for the first time not long ago. It was okay. I agree with most of you and wonder why they couldn't have stuck it out one more day for the sake of the money. Money isn't everything, but one more day of shooting wouldn't have been the end of the world. Wouldn't the TV company have sued them for breach of contract? I wondered this, too. If I were the producers, I would be mad pissed that the family dropped out at the last second, rendering all the footage unusable and not having the time to find a replacement. Way to go back on your responsibilities, Pike family. All in all, an okay Christmas story. Not my favourite, but it was more or less all right.

Regarding the contract, Mr. Lawyer Pike made adjustments to it before he would sign it. He included something like they could stop filming at any time as long as they gave the money back. Mrs. Pike had to write out a $10,000 check to give back to producers. If they had every intention of going through with everything, wouldn't that money have been better off in a CD or money market account rather than their checking account? Earn some interest before you blow it all.

They probably wouldn't have gotten much interest anyway, cause if they put it in some kind of term deposit or mf, they would probably have been dinged if they took it out too soon. I love this book. It's so cute and warm and Christmas-y. I wish I could read it... but all my books got wrecked *sob*

^ What happened?!?!? I just read this one for maybe the second or third time, and I like it a lot better now than when I first read it. Vanessa's Secret Santa gift to Mallory was really thoughtful and touching. I don't think I would have come up with something like that at age 9!

I might try to read this one whenI get home this weekend. I remember not liking it very much though. I tend to not like Mallory books at all, after "Poor Mallory"

I also loved reading about the Pike's family. It seems like every time I read books, I never really read about the whole family being together, especially over the holidays.

Interesting fact at the end about Ann. Lucky lezzie biatch gets to take the ENTIRE month of December off to plan for Christmas! And you know she's lickin' the beaver during her vacations in the summer, too. Love how she is rich enough to not work for a whole month, most likely off of her BSC royalties - and she didn't even write the majority of the books!

Um. I don't think Ann's sexual orientation has anything to do with taking the month of December off, or the annoyingness thereof.

Sorry, it really doesn't have anything to do with it. I love lesbians. I was just trying to make a joke about Ann and her lesbianity (if it was a rumour or not I have seen it being discussed on the board). I was just making a joke about how it's interesting that Ann takes a whole month off of work. Lucky lady (for being able to do that).

Kristy brings a single present to the BSC party. Shouldn't she have brought, oh, more than that? Maybe it was for the camera crew
