Jessi didn't seem very sympathetic when Mal had problems with volleyball in Boys & Gym, either. It was Ben who waited for her after detention, very sweet. Makes me wish we'd seen them hang out more.

^That is all very true Supprazz. It just made me sad to realize that over two months Jessi didn't put aside preteen pride and/or righteousness to at least talk to Mal, say a friendly hi, or something. I know, Mal didn't exactly do that either. This is all shades of Mary Anne and Kristy never taking the time (that we know of) to rekindle their old friendship. I know part of my Jessi "fault" in this has nothing to do with her but with Ann and Co's decisions to have Mal fail at riding but Jessi win a "medal" at swimming, a sport she had never even before considered let alone invested a lot of hope into liking. It's amazing how we are about 20 years older than these characters and can see a lot of these things they couldn't and we probably couldn't either at those ages. I was about to bring up Jessi's Gold Medal in response to oldhickory's post too, which was a few books before Mallory Hates Boys, so she definitely couldn't empathize with Mallory doing awful in gym when Jessi did really well, though it's kind of nice archery was her strength at the end though in reality not all people learn to suddenly love gym in the end. I certainly didn't.

This one made me proud of mal for going out and doing something new and trying to meet new people. It just makes me sad how terrible it works out for her.
I really can't take another pike talent show!

I've said before (although apparently not in this thread) that I would have been completely traumatized if a baby-sitter had ripped apart my baby blanket. In fact, I would still be traumatized if my baby blanket fell apart in the dryer, and I am 32 years old. Although that wouldn't happen, because now I hand-wash her and lay her flat to dry. (Yes, she's a girl. Her name is Pinky. Very original of me, I know.)
Anyway, I was thinking about this book because when my husband and I visited my parents for Christmas, my mom and I did major surgery on Pinky. Her old satin binding was falling apart, so I bought a new blanket binding a while ago, but I wanted to wait until my mom could help me with it instead of trying to do it myself. I'm an excellent knitter but not much of a seamstress, and my mom can sew really well. I also only have a cheap little sewing machine and my mother has a good one.
I'd kind of thought we could sew the new binding over the old one, but apparently it doesn't work that way. My mother told me I had to rip the old binding off, and it was indeed traumatizing. My brother had to cover his eyes because he couldn't stand to watch, although 1) he is a 29-year-old man and 2) it isn't even his blanket. ("You're mutilating Pinky!" he said.) I am saving the old pieces of satin binding in a Ziploc bag.
My blanket looks great, post-surgery, and although I may eventually have to retire her someday and keep her in a box instead of on the bed, that's still a long way off.

^Aw that is sweet about "Pinky, the blanket." Reminds me how I feel about my two nearest and dearest stuffed friends Minty (Rabbit) and Benjy (Dog). Both are in need of "surgery." Like Stacey, I have zero interest in learning to sew and yes mainly for her reasons (#3--fear of sticking myself because I am afraid so much of needles). That was nice of your mom to help with the "operation," My Grandma used to mend my own animal friends and probably blankie, (when I still had him). Good memory. I'm glad your blanket came through its repairs, Wanderingfrog

yeah I was surprised she didn't start crying or getting possessive over the blanket either at the thought of cutting it up.....even Ramona in Ramona the pest was in tears when she and Howie were fighting over the red ribbon Miss Binney gave Howie when it was suggested they split it in half and share.

This is making me want to go look and see if I have my baby blanket or if I need to tell my dad to dig through the closets at his house. Mine was a small multicolored patchwork quilt. I also had a yellow knitted one, but the quilt was my favorite of the two.

I also have a childhood blanket that I keep with me named, "Blankie" (lame!) He stays with my Wrinkles -- those were my 2 favourite childhood pieces and I keep them with me wherever I go. I barely touch Blankie though because I'm afraid he'll disintegrate. He's yellow (very faint now) and white with a yellow bear on the front. The ends are really hard from where they've been sewn together so much and the most parts have no fluffing at all. But he's going to outlive me, for sure!

Candykane, I hope you find it. I still have my baby sleeping bag. It's sort of multi-colored on what used to be white. Virgo, my childhood blanket was also named Blankie. It was white with (I think) very light color trim. Sadly, this has been long gone. Is Wrinkles a favorite stuffed friend?

Yes! My Wrinkles doesn't look the exact same, but it's the same idea of the 80s Wrinkles pup that was popular.
See how they have a tongue? I remember brushing my Wrinkle's tongue (teeth) as a kid and developing a slightly blue stain on it. Of course, the tongue needed to be changed as I got older!

I didn't have a special blankie. My mom says she tried but I wasn't interested. I had two Pound Purries (one big, one little) that I slept with every night that now stay in my bedroom closet. The big one (a boy) wears a little nightgown that I used to have a matching one of. (They were sold as a set for you and your doll, but I didn't like dolls so I put it on my stuffed kitty. Not weird at all.)

That's sweet about the pound purries. I had one pound puppy. I was never a doll person either, Sparklymouse. Off and on I would play with three baby dolls and pretend the two boys were brothers and that the one girl was the older brother's girlfriend. I loved my stuffed friends and playmobile kids. In fact, I will always regret having sold all my playmobile stuff for a cheap price to a teacher I never really liked. :/

I had a knitted pink one I used up until I was 5 or 6, and I wouldn't fall asleep unless I was with that one, even if I had a heavier cover over it, but I don't think I really cared when it was upgraded to a similar looking and bigger pink knitted blanket.
