Yeah, and when one other girl said she couldn't ride w/o training wheels, the teacher singled her out and was all, "You'll be able to soon blah blah blah." I would have been horrified!

In Live from WSTO, Claudia mentions that she used to run a personals column, but I can't think of the place where they actually say that she stopped with the column. I'm 99% sure they never did mention that she'd stopped writing for the paper....

^ I don't remember when they stopped, but it seems like there's a book where someone mentions that Claudia "used to" write a personals column for the paper.

^ at the end of stacey's secret friend when they take the embarrassing pictures, claudia says "you're not the only one who writes for the paper," so i don't think the writers themselves have established when she quits the paper.

I definitely like the newer cover better than the old cover. Kristy looks very tan on the cover, if you ask me. Almost too tan for April in Stoneybrook. New cover: www.scholastic.ca/annmartin/bsc/lib/babysittersclub53.htmClaudia, Kristy and Mary Anne all look cute. I like how they were consistent with the book: i.e. Claudia is wearing a tilted hat!

I always thought Kristy's bedroom looked dingy on the old cover. If that's mansion living, well...

It looks very foo-foo little girl. Not Kristy's style! The sheets over the table remind me of a Nana.

I just read this and yes it is boring. How annoying that Jamie kept pointing out sticks and leaves on the ground.
Here is something I did find interesting, I love how Kristy describes MA. She always describes her as sweet and loyal etc....which is a far cry from MA and too many babies when MA and Dawn talk crap about Kristy and roll their eyes about her.

I'm editing to say I didn't get much into this one either. I do have a question for you, Wiggirl. Where in MA/Babies does the below happen.
Lol, to Kristy's bedroom resembling a grandmothers! The small table covering DOES look like something an older person might have as decor. The other thing is wasn't, Kristy's bed always described as "mammoth?" The bed pictured (I have the original cover) looks a little bigger than a twin in width but not so much in length. On the cover of "Mallory and the Mystery Diary," Mal's bed is HUGE. I always wondered just how big her and Vanessa's room was based on that. When I was growing up the biggest bed I ever had were bunk beds for 4-5 years. I never had (still have never had) my own Queen sized bed.

^ I was just looking at the cover today and I noticed the bed issue too. Also, I was thinking of how Kristy looks too tan for a Connecticut April (but I mentioned that in an earlier post). She looks almost Latina to me. I guess that, combined with a bedroom that Kristy really wouldn't have tolerated, fueled the art department to re-issue another cover. I don't mind this book. I kind of like hearing about Kristy having to juggle her hectic life. For a 13-year-old, she really did have a lot of things going on. Also, it's been mentioned before, but what's up with the Pete Black inconsistencies. Now he's a big nerd in the book? I always pictured him slightly suave, like his name. I wish I could see the new cover a bit bigger. If anyone finds a bigger pic of the new cover, let me know!

Kristy apparently has a "fluffy pink quilt," as mentioned in Dawn and the Older Boy, and that always seemed waaay out of character to me.

I just looked at the (old) cover and Kristy does look awfully tan as do Emily and David Michael (is that DM on the floor)? The illustrators really did not know how to draw kids. Emily's size is right for 2 but her face is way too chiseled and older looking. Poor David Michael...well he looks much better on "Kristy's Mystery Admirer."
A "fluffy pink quilt," sounds nice to me but not very "Kristy." Plus unless it was a down or flannel (are there such things) quilt it doesn't seem very warm for CT winters. I would imagine Watson's mansion had 24/7 controlled heat and/or ac so maybe it was warm enough. Although, if that is the case, I really don't get why (again Mystery Admirer cover) in some books Kristy is wearing a turtleneck under a heavy sweater in the house. It does seem like a lot times the girls wear heavy (to me) clothing inside their homes which never made much sense at all.

For some reason, this made me imagine the series turning Kristy into a Latina character (because she looks like it on the cover, haha). They don't really say each character is WHITE. They make sure to add that Claud's Japanese and Jessi is black. If they did, then how Kristy looks on the cover would have made much more sense

^ i always imagined the quilt was something elizabeth picked out for her, or bought because kristy showed no interest in decorating. my mom decorated my room with rose-patterned wallpaper and a different style of rose-patterned trim. none of my friends believed me when i told them.

^Yeah, since we're always reminded how Kristy doesn't care about clothes and stuff, I can see her just using whatever Elizabeth bought without caring much about how it looked. And I can see Elizabeth wanting to pick something a little more feminine for Kristy.
