I agree with everything you said! These were almost my thoughts on the book. Melissa does seem like such a random character. She's never been in any books and never shows up again. Guess she got the hint. I thought that Claud was pretty mean to her even if she was a bit annoying. Just tell her that she's being a pest (in a nice way).

Yeah Claud was definitely really rude to her. She's pretty much like "OMG I can't believe MELISSA wants to hang out with us! Uggh!" Then again, Stacey, who doesn't even KNOW the girl is like rolling her eyes at the thought of her even sitting with them on the bus.

Yeah Claudia was a complete cow in this book. I'm surprised Peaches didn't yell at her or slap her sooner. If I had just had my first baby, I'd be pretty mad if I had a 13 year old niece who was being all superior and assuming that I'd want her hanging around and hogging time with the baby... also the girl that Claudia gets in a complete hissy fit with has got the same name as me so that loses points for Claud Also a random amusing description in this book from the infamous Chapter 2 - "Mary Anne also used to live across the street from me, in the house next to kristy's. What a threesome we were."

I love the Hermosa Beach line in this book. It's even better if you ignore Claudia's train of thought and just imagine the teacher asking about the city of brotherly love and Claudia saying (apparently out of nowhere) "Hermosa Beach?"

I don't get the Hermosa Beach reference... What is it?

;D
I just assumed that the "city of brotherly love" is a well known American reference and so blurting out some random, insignificant place is pretty stupid. But there may be more to it, I dunno.

^That's pretty much why I was amused...here, it's general knowledge that "city of brotherly love" refers to Philadelphia (philos and adelphos are "loving" and "brother in Greek), plus it isn't even as though Claudia lives all that far away from it. So her coming up with a (to her) rational explanation for why a totally incorrect answer would be the right one made me laugh. Sort of like when she was taking that spelling test and was proud of herself for spelling pharaoh as "farrow".

Has someone made an icon about the farrow thing? That'd be funny.

I thought Melissa showed up in one of the Friends Forever books? Possibly "Kristy and the Kidnapper"? Or am I going crazy?

I'm pretty sure she is in at least one of them, but I don't remember which one.

Oh! Yeah, she's in Kristy and the Kidnapper. Acts like a complete ditz with her boyfriend but turns out to be an excellent public speaker.
