I broke my leg before when I was in 4th grade (in a rather unusual way I am embarrassed to disclose) so I relate to Claudia here. Also what is it with her parents being disappointed with her 81%? They should be praising her progress and encouraging her especially since she is known to fail tests. *sigh* A part of me wonders what would have happened if Mimi had told them to leave her alone. I also am not a fan of practical jokes and would not have babysat for Betsy AT ALL anymore. As for the girls playing jokes on Betsy for revenge. I do believe that two wrongs don't make a right but when I first read the book, it was fun seeing her get a taste of her own medicine.

Betsy was a real brat. I couldn't stand her! She never learned her lesson even after Claudia broke her leg. Or should I say Betsy broke Claudia's leg. To be fair, Betsy never planned to break Claudia's leg. She expected the swing to give out immediately, and when it didn't, she forgot about it. That's why she was so apologetic afterwards, and she still kept asking if Claudia was okay later on. She continued pulling pranks, but were they all as dangerous as that one? Also, at the end, one of the sitters finds that while she's presumably still playing jokes, she didn't do it that time.

I think Claudia overreacted by wanting to quit just because she broke her leg .

Betsy was a psychopath. Who saws the chain do that the swing breaks while somebody was using it?
Plus the fact she got away with it. Claudia could have been killed.

Betsy is awful. The BSC should have stopped sitting for the Sobaks altogether after Claudia broke her leg.

I broke my collarbone when we were forced to do an obstacle rain during gym class in primary school so I can relate to Claudia a bit.

Breaking a collarbone sounds miserable. What a crappy experience.
I think Betsy learned the wrong lesson in this book. They made her feel bad about being the butt of a joke, but empathy is lost on her. She deserved to feel bad about hurting Claudia, and learn that actions have consequences and one of them is people not liking you.

Did Claudia have a roommate in the hospital? Because that can't be her, lol. I know some people give flowers to hospital patients, but a bouquet like that is probably not the most practical gift for someone who can't get out of bed.

Sorry, I found another. Claudia looks kinda sexy.

Lol, this one is ridiculous. Claudia must be 7 feet tall with a leg that long. Then she's drawing on it while looking at the phone. We didn't need to see the belly button. This one is sweet, but I'd be nervous to have that many people on my bed when my broken leg is hanging there. I imagine that Claudia's saying she needs some time off and Kristy is freaking out about that. Her flower arrangement looks like a funky pineapple.

For the first cover, I'm wondering how Claudia lifted her leg up. It looks like it's detached from her body at that angle and that it's standing knee up from the bed.

It's so reckless to swing your broken leg up and rest it on the wall like that. Imagine the Kishi parents walking in and seeing that.
I am super jealous that Italian readers got 80 nail tattoos in every book. I would have loved them.

I think I've found all of the covers that I can for this one. Some of the title translations:
Claudia and the heavy joke Joke grabbed Don’t be discouraged, Valerie Claudia and the indomitable Belinda A bad prank for Julie Revenge for Claudia A bad accident for Claudia

I enjoyed this one more than I thought, although the practical joke war is VERY childish and inappropriate. At the same time, they are 13, so I suppose it's realistic. I did think Kristy went too far, though, and it's annoying that her pranks probably ruined someone else's movie experience.
Why didn't they TALK to Mrs. Sobak? Why wasn't there some sort of apology for Claudia's broken leg? I agree with other posters, Betsy's practical jokes should have been taken away immediately. The BSC handled this situation poorly. To be honest, I'm surprised the BSC parents let them sit for Betsy.
Despite my gripes, I did enjoy this book. There were 2 interesting tidbits with Dawn: her staying at the Kishis for dinner occasionally (is this ever mentioned again?) and bringing Claudia junk food. I wish we saw those scenes, though. I feel bad for Dawn for her home life suddenly being so lonely. I'm also wondering when Richard and Sharon actually start dating seriously, since they get married in 11 books. Guess I'll find out!
