^(replying to Blossom on the previous page) I think Kylie has been editing the thread titles to make them all look the same. She must have just typed the wrong number for this one. Good eye, Blossom! I don't know how many times I have replied in the thread without noticing.

I just reread this, and noticed something that I don't think I was aware of before. When Charlie and Sam explain to Stacey that a workman was responsible for the small fire she saw (and tried to put out with a wheelbarrow, hah), they also tell her that his was probably the face she saw at the window. But Stacey saw the face at the window the first time she and Charlotte visited, and the fire the second time. Maybe that workman liked to often stay late. Or maybe not...

Lol, I just read a couple days ago and missed that. What I really loved about this book is for one of the only time we got to actually see Stacey/Charlotte acting like "almost sisters." The books all claim this but other than a little in "Stacey and the Mystery Money" and "Stacey's Emergency," oh also when Char brings back Stacey a Christmas gift from Paris in "Empty House," their so-called closeness is merely implied. So sweet how Char called Stacey at the end of this book.
The other thing that stood out for me was reading about Kristy and Stacey hanging out and talking on the phone. a most definite under-developed relationship.
The supernatural stuff, I am not a fan of horror movies or really ghost stories. I did though, always wish Jared Mullray had made an another appearance and (moreso) he had been the Jared in "Mallory and the Mystery Diary." This book hinted at a connection between Mr. Hennesey and Stacey. I would have preferred a stronger ending and maybe another book with Mr. Hennessey (had he lived).

I know. I'm surprised that she didn't freak about having a hallucination. I agree with everyone about enjoying to read the Stacey/Charlotte relationship.

^I still haven't figured out, even after all these years, if Stacey really had some sort of ghostly vision, or if it was just her imagination....

^I want it to be a ghostly vision! I always loved that part because it was totally creepy.

This post is labeled wrong -- it should be #35 (although I am sure someone has picked up on that by now).
Anyway, I am in the middle of re-reading this again but I just wanted to say: does the cover of this book look a bit different from the rest to you? A bit blurry, perhaps? Something seems off...
And it's annoying how Stacey is wearing a green sweater. They should have picked a different colour sweater because she basically blends into the shrubbery. Almost like she has a floating head.

When I originally read this book, I didn't like it very much. I guess because the fact that the mystery was unsolved bothered me. But I just re-read it and I enjoyed it much more. The nightmares that Mallory, Stacey and Charlotte had over the house were an interesting twist, as was the vision Stacey had of the house burning down. In a way, it was creepier than some of the mysteries that were solved. I like hearing about ghosts, spirits, and the unkown, so I turned a new leaf on this one. No longer in the bad pile!

I like that we don't know for sure. The element of mystery makes this book scarier!

^This is one case where I do want to know. I do see your point, though. I am actually re-reading this and Stacey even lectures Kristy and Charlotte how they should not assume the owner of the haunted house is a man. Come on, Stacey, I mean Ann!
