I thought it was really nice for Kristy and Mallory to pitch in and help the others since they weren't going on the trip. Of course, best friends forever, blah blah blah, and all that jazz ...
There were come cute Kristy moments in this book EXCEPT I was a little peeved when Kristy mentions that a special event is coming up and Claudia says, "Your birthday?" Ugh! It's not even JULY and Kristy's birthday is at the end of AUGUST! It would have made more sense if they said Claud's birthday, which is in July.

Speaking of Claudia's supposed July birthday, I really think the Ghosties meant for her birthday to be Jessi's b-day at the end of June. In SM4 (I think), #7, and at least one other book, Claudia has "turned 13" before mid July. VirgoScorpio, in BSC-land "recently" often means weeks or even "years" ago.

^No one came to her party in her portrait, and her b-day isn't mentioned in the movie either. Poor Claud!

I always assumed that Claudia may have been making a joke, since Kristy said that there was a big event coming up. But I think the joke would have still made sense if Claudia had said it, refering to her own birthday (and that would fit in with Claud's sense of humour).

When I was reading this thread, I noticed how people have commented that this is the first book where Dawn and Abby meet. In reality, they meet first in #91 - Claudia and the First Thanksgiving. Dawn surprises the BSC members and arrives at their join Thanksgiving celebration. Abby and Dawn meet there.

I looked on line recently for flights to Hawaii and geez - 500 bucks certainly doesn't get you far now. I would've jumped at that! I wish that Sharon and Richard had gone as chaperons as Dawn suggested b/c that would have been nice to see them together.
How many times are these people going to give Dawn welcome back gifts then good bye gifts and party after party. Ugh! Come on now they all know she's going to come back and leave and come back and leave b/c she doesn't know what the heck she wants. I would have gotten her a pack of gum too like Logan!

I would have gotten her a pack of gum too like Logan! LOL! That made me giggle. They did give her so many presents and parties...isn't there a mention that she is looking forward to it because she knows her friends would give her presents even though she didn't think they needed to?

^Did she say that? So that's the real reason behind the coast hopping! Do we know if her CA friends did the same or just the CT ones? I couldn't even really read this book last night it was so bad. Do we really care about Dawn and her finals (again)? I think the back cover summed it up ^Doesn't sound too great a story to me! ITA with others who've said Richard and Sharon should not have let Dawn go and how What if Dawn hadn't made the cut? And/or what if MA did (make the cut) and she (MA) really could not get her "nonrefundable money" back, then what? That would have been interesting. It sure sounded like the only reason MA wanted to go was because Dawn was.

I wonder how many Dawn fans creamed their pants when they found out that this book was coming out...
Also, from this book, I learned that Stoneybrook has a Wendys.

This book made me realize another thing about Lerangis' books that I dislike - there's so much crying! It seems like any time someone does something even remotely nice for someone, or someone is even slightly happy to see someone else, everyone's eyes start welling up and then everyone starts blubbering (which must be one of Peter's favorite words) all over each other.

I remember crying when I was a teenager, but that was for stuff that doesn't even seem important now!

I think some teenage girls do cry a lot because it's a very hormonal stage of life, and sometimes it's hard not to cry even if you rationally know it's nothing to cry about. Of course everyone's different and some don't cry ever. But even for teenagers who are prone to tears, crying every time someone does something nice or every time you're happy to see a friend is weird. Mary Anne in particular seems almost deranged with the frequency of her crying.
