Mary Anne and Dawn were pretty inconsiderate when it came to putting the stickers over his own stickers and taking his stuff off the walls... I'd have been pretty mad if some one had done that to my room without asking.

^ I totally missed that they did that. It was inconsiderate. Did the stickers come off, I wonder? I also felt really sorry for Amy - nice her parents left her with people she hardly knew.

I would have been the same at her age... completely terrified at being left alone with strangers for 3 weeks. They could have at least left her with people she actually knew well!

Interesting also that amy's family hated jack schafer. Hmm...

^ I had forgotten about that but found it really funny ;D The way it was narrated, and the thing about the meat packing causing problems, gave me a good laugh. I think I need to reread tonight as I could use another laugh.

I felt so bad for Jeff - it's one thing to take down decorations that can be replaced, but covering up the stickers was really rude. Especially since Amy wasn't going to be there that long, and I doubt she'd really care. Some little girls even *gasp* like superheroes! The X-Men comics were huge among both genders in my elementary school.
And I felt horrible for Amy! I would have been miserable in that situation too. They didn't have any family they could leave her with? No grandparents? Or at least have someone stay in their house so she could at least be in her home with her parents gone? Poor kid.

I don't remember much about the subplot of this book so it looks like I will have to re read it. However I remember reading this book when I was younger and was completly shocked when Stacey's mom wanted her to get a job. All 13 year olds that I know are having fun during their summer and also are too young to work!

Well, if my daughter was inviting all of her friends and her boyfriend over to eat all my food and wreck my house, she darn well better get a job to pay for those snacks. I mean, once in a while, sure, but those girls were there every day.

^ Totally agree with msstock about the job thing and with mckay, too. I think the reason that Stacey's mom made the big deal about the job was to make a "point" about having all of those moocher losers (I'm in kind of a hateful mood right now, in case you couldn't tell ;D) over every day.

Well yeah if I was Stacey's mom I would be pissed at all those kids eating her out of house and home, however I still think 13 years old is too young to get a job.

I agree with msstock. I'd be mad that my kids idiot friends were eating me out of house and home but I wouldn't require Stacey to get a freakin' job! She could just say "okay, no more having friends over when I'm not home" which is reasonable enough.

^ Agree. That is what I always thought, too. She was the mom and should have just put her foot down instead of trying to make her figure things out on her own, which is what I got the impression that she did throughout the book. But that might have taken care of the problem sooner and there wouldn't have been a story so ..... ;D

Even as a kid, I was surprised that Stacey got the job at Bellair's, both because she was pretty young to work in an actual childcare establishment and because she wandered off to play with a little kid in the middle of her job interview. I know that was supposed to show how great she is with kids, but she should have asked permission instead of just saying "excuse me" and walking off.
...The stupidest little things bug me sometimes.

^ Definitely not professional conduct. There are other ways she could have showed the interviewer that she was interested in playing with the kid!
