Considering how fast Kristy agreed to go to the dance with Alan, I think Kristy liked him a lot more than she herself knew. And the police presence definitely ensured it to be a memorable way to be asked to the dance! Were there any other memorable askings in the series? Trevor calling Claudia later was pretty cute

^ i'm sure kristy liked him more than she let on. she isn't the type to say yes to a boy just because she likes the attention. i really love claudia and alan together and part of me feels guilty that kristy's childhood friend ended up with the first boy kristy ever liked, but i don't think kristy and alan would have ended up together anyway.

I kind of think Kristy was just excited to enter the foray of being crushed on by a boy, a realm usually reserved for the likes of Stacey & Claudia. I too would like to see Alan as an adult. Someone should write a fan-fic.

^I think so too and it must've been exciting because technically Kristy was the first sitter in the books to be asked to a dance.

Yeah, after hearing about the Phantom he probably just made a snap decision, even if it made no sense. Stupid thing was...Mary Anne told him about the Phantom. Ugh. Does anyone believe that this is one of the main reasons for why the BSC doesn't tell their parents anything after learning from this experience hence the lack of parental involvement, especially in the mysteries and especially seeing how this was the "first" mystery in the series?

Well, re-read this book again. This time, I took my time of reading the book. Didn't have to rush the book back to the library. Since, I now own the book.
So, Alan look at the club's notebook, that Kristy carried around the school. I'm trying to think what kind of middle school desk, they had? You got desk that has lid to be open up. You have open front desk. So, when Kristy wasn't looking, Alan could take the notebook from her desk, read all the notes. But, I doubt, he could memorizes all the information. So, he probably wrote them down on piece of paper. Put the notebook, back in Kristy's desk. If, he put it in the exact same spot, that Kristy put in her desk. Kristy, should know, that someone was in her desk, if the notebook, was out of place.
Mary Anne, putting burglar alarm in Thomas's house. Louie, open the door, the boombox blaring music. That just made me laugh.
When Kristy, her mom, two older brothers, & Waston came from the garage door. It's like, Mary Anne, doesn't want no one in the house. lol.

And Cary was able to steal Kristy's Math homework in Mystery # 25. The two work together at times. So, it seems like it wouldn't be that hard for Alan to continually steal peeks at her notebook without her ever noticing?

And Buttercup, Alan probably didn't need to memorize the info. He could have taken a photo. And he probably didn't need to be too exact on how he placed back the notebook since Kristy probably wasn't too adamant on taking mental notes on how it was placed everytime she left it alone since she wasn't aware that there was any need for it?

Taking a picture would have been much more obvious back then. He would have had to whip out a clunky camera. Now I'm picturing him with a Polaroid, lol.

Back then, he would have had to get the film developed, and then it might not be in focus.

My mom had a long, rectangular camera in the 80s. Smaller than a Polaroid, still not easy to hide, though.

I forgot that this was back in the Dark Ages of the 7th grade and not the 8th grade where in some books they had cell phones and such.

Some parents had cell phones, but the series ended in 2000, which was before camera phones were a Thing.
