I always pictured the Kid Kit toys to be used, but still in good condition. That's pretty much how I would describe my childhood toys, many of which I still have. I was definitely a pack rat when it came to toys! I didn't mind other people playing with them, as long as they were somewhat careful!

Her name was first mentioned in Kristy's Great Idea, but she first appears in Phantom Phone Calls. Stacey is sitting for her and they're terrified when the lights go out, they hear a noise, get freaked out and then it turns out to be Carrot Maybe the BSC's old toys were in fairly good condition... I used to love it when my old babysitters or friends brought some of their games to my house. Yeah, they didn't really bring soft toys... it was more books and games. They might not have been in perfect condition, but obviously still usable. Come to think of it, I can't really remember what else was in the kid kits ;D

They sometimes talked about restocking the Kid Kits with crayons and stickers and stuff. I think Claudia's Kid Kit contained more art stuff, and Jessi once made an office kit to put in hers.

^ I think it was. The office kit did sound pretty cool. I probably would have played with that. Just no stuffed animals and barbies with messy hair ;D (that was another one of my "issues" ;D)

^ I liked doing that, too, but got frustrated when they were beyond repair. ;D Sounds like you and I might have had fun playing together as kids, macca. Too bad we're on different sides of the globe. ;D I like how Dr. Johanssen helps Stacey in this book and wish they would have developed this relationship a bit more. Also, wish they wouldn't have just seemed to drop the issue of Stacey's parents pushing the new treatments, etc. I doubt they gave up that quickly - with just the one experience - and doubt Stacey would ever stop being really worried that they might start getting obsessive about it at any time again. It is kind of brought up in her statements about her parents worrying in later books but not really made into an issue again. The books seemed to do this a lot and missed some good opportunities, I think.

On the back cover, it says Stacey's parents dragged her to almost every doctor in America... but we only actually saw her get taken to one. I can't remember if Stacey referred to the fact that she'd been to several others as well?
In any case, it was a waste of time, it's widely understood that there's no cure for diabetes.

^ Agree. But sometimes people just don't want to accept the fact that everything can't be cured. I can see where Stacey's parents were coming from - wanting to do whatever it took, no matter how impossible and unrealistic - to help their daughter but really felt for her. Even though it was just one doctor, that was bad enough. Sometimes the covers do exaggerate, though ;D

But they should've taken her to more doctors, if that was the point they were trying to prove ;D

^ I think they HAD taken her to lots of doctors, up until this book happened. The events in this one sort of put an end to that.

Oh no, I loved playing with other people's messy-haired barbies and making them all neat and tidy again ;D Yeah, and some people's barbies -- I was all, "what the heck do you do with your dolls?!" I had a rubbermaid tub for all my barbie stuff that I kept under my bed, and I always made sure my barbies were cutely dressed and whatnot before I put them away, because what if a friend came over to play? I'd be all embarassed if my dolls had ratty hair and naked bodies!

^ I had the same thing with the rubbermaid tub and actually still have all my barbies stacked and dressed, stored neatly in them. Mine was more for my own benefit, though, as I didn't usually play barbies with my friends. (One reason is they were too rough and destructive. ;D) Macca, agree that it would have made more sense for Stacey's parents to take her to more doctors but I think they didn't just because there wasn't room in the book. I'm glad for Stacey that they didn't, anyway. ;D

I'd be all embarassed if my dolls had ratty hair and naked bodies! Yeah, I had mine all neatly stacked under the bed as well. The worst thing I saw people do with their barbies was cram the heads down on their necks. It was like they'd pulled the head off and when they tried to put it back on, they didn't sit right, so they just shoved it on, right down to their shoulders. And kept playing with it like that!! I don't think I'd have been able to look at it anymore! ;D

^Haha. If my barbies' heads came off I would try to avoid doing that when I screwed them back on. It would be just too stupid looking ;D I've kept all of mine too but they are incredibly unfortunate looking. My sister and I played with them so much that we got bored and decided to give them new hairstyles, cut their hair, colored it with markers, that sort of thing. We even gave them tattoos. We were so odd...
