Well we had one where we were trying to get my guy friend to come out and hang out with us, but he refused. So we kept ringing his doorbell and everything. I guess his brothers got annoyed with him and flipped out on him for us doing that. He stopped speaking to us for a week because of it. So then the rest of us blamed each other for him being mad at us. So that one was dumb. I don't remember how we started speaking again except that something really funny happened and we were all best friends again.

I always thought it was really strange that Mary Anne put her arm around Dawn when they were looking through photo albums in her room to make Kristy jealous. I never put my arm around any of my friends, especially when I was 12. I mean, I think my friends and I would hold hands when we were like 6 and 7, but we wouldn't put arms around each other. And Dawn didn't even think it was weird until she saw Kristy making faces at them, and she realized Mary Anne was using her to get back at Kristy. Anyone else think this was strange?

I guess it depends on how you picture it happening...I always thought Mary Anne was just sort of loosely draping an arm around Dawn's shoulder, very casual, not wrapping her arm around her to pull her in close

Yeah, it's not like Mary Anne was molesting her on the bed. I'm not a touchy-feely person at all though, so if I was Dawn I would have wondered why this girl I just met was hugging me.

I thought it was strange, and I always got the impression that Dawn DID think it was strange and was like, WTF are you doing Mary Anne? bscfan24, I LOVE your Chipettes sig! I love that movie!

I always wondered exactly how the flashlight code worked. Mary Anne made it up, but she never explained it. I guess Ann didn't feel like working something out to explain to the readers. I always related to the weird and stilted way that Mary Anne and her dad talked to each other. I didn't grow up without my mom like MA did, but my dad is kind of hard to talk to and he's not a great conversationalist. So I always found their dinner conversations in this book to be realistic. They do seem to get better at talking to each other in subsequent books, I guess because Richard met Sharon and did his famous "loosening up."

I always assumed the flashlight code was Morse code.

A flashlight is awfully difficult to turn on and off that fast.

^ That's true! I always thought that it might be like Morse code, too, but it seems like it would be really confusing to do with a flashlight.
I think the only book we got to "see" Mary Anne and Kristy using the code was #1. In #4, Mary Anne wanted to flash "I'm sorry" to Kristy after the big fight, but Kristy kept her windowshade down. Cold!

However they managed it, it must have taken a looong time to send messages. I never would have gone for that. I'm way too impatient! Maybe they should have written stuff on paper planes and sailed them between their windows.

^I always giggle when rereading the part in Kristy's Great Idea where she tries to use the flashlight code to explain the idea for the BSC to Mary Anne and MA is just, like, "What?"

Can you imagine how long that message was? I know Kristy condensed everything quite a bit, but still. I hope Richard never had to go outside for anything at night. It must have looked like a UFO landed in his neighbor's bedroom.

I could never figure out the flashlight code either. I thought it might have been Morse code too but I wasn't sure. I also thought briefly maybe they spelled out the words with the flashlights. I still have no clue how they did it.

It must have looked like a UFO landed in his neighbor's bedroom. This made me LOL! I actually prefer Richard in this book, before he becomes generic Richard. I mean, he's never as generic as the other dads (minus Watson), but he does loose personality and closeness with MA later on.
