And how she didn't want to hug Stacey and call her Anastasia, and being (unintentionally I hope) insensitive about telling Stacey to diet with her

^That really was insensitive, I never realized that before. It was almost like (probably unknowingly) Laine was going back to the "diabetes" fight she had with Stacey. Totally O/T but I wonder if she and Stacey ever really talked about what being a brittle diabetic meant for Stacey. In any case, Laine really was rude, particularly by making fun of Pete to King. It would have been interesting had "we" ever gotten to meet this so-called "King of Laine's Heart--" though I'm glad we didn't! I just meant in terms of what Starrynight shared above. I also don't think Pete was anything other than a young teenage boy probably experiencing his first BIG crush. I thought Stacey should have called him, too, btw to apologize. The Valentine Masquerade still so cute. I loved how a few of the kids David Michael, Karen, and Nicky helped decorate. It was also very nice seeing a charge (Nicky) join in something without a sitter. I did get a laugh out of the fact that Pete and Austin wore outfits similar to what James and Mathew originally intended. This subplot always makes me wish I were a BSC member and had "helped" with the party.

Totally O/T but I wonder if she and Stacey ever really talked about what being a brittle diabetic meant for Stacey. I doubt it. Stacey doesn't seem like the type to talk about stuff like that, especially something that makes her so vulnerable. I remember in Stacey's Lie when Stacey and Maureen comment on how she is a lot like Ed in that way. We never really saw Stacey opening up to her BSC friends in that way, either.

^That is a very good point. I was trying to give Laine a tiny bit of better character by thinking she might have asked or at least said she cared and would listen. Given how big their fight was that may not have even gone over too well. I tried!

Yeah cause Laine had a nice side few books back, like when she kept visiting Stacey at the hospital in Stacey's Emergency bringing her all those gifts including another stuffed pig for her collection.
oh and about Pete Black, it was NOT his first big crush, he's dated every BSC 8th grader and a lot more I'm sure

I still would have liked a reply from laine but I guess she and king probably read Stacey's letter and laughed at her.

^Very sadly, that may well have been true. I am not a clown fan, but it would have been interesting to see the "Junquey" clowns Claud and Stacey ordered. It's too bad that home shopping show was never mentioned again. Although, MA might have gotten into more credit card trouble had she been a fan of it. Speaking of which, don't you generally have to pay by credit card for anything ordered on an info-mercial? I wonder what Rioko and Maureen thought of the clowns?

I'm imagining some gaudy clowns with gold accents. The kind that you just have to get the whole collection off of qvc!

I'm picturing a clown in a jester costume, with a china head and soft body. Probably because we had one in my house when I was growing up. I thought it was cute at the time, but I've become less of a clown fan as I've gotten older.
The real estate agent I used when I bought my house had his entire office filled with clowns. Like, top to bottom. Figurines of all sizes, masks, photos...it was creepy!

^That really is so creepy, Candykane. The only clowns I've ever had was a costume my Grandma made me when I was like 7. A friend of my Grandma's hand knitted two stuffed clowns that because of the effort was sort of sentimental like the above. Finally, in her breakfront, Grandma once had a glass clown. Sadly it was a casualty of the 94 earthquake.

If Laine was horrified by Pete wearing sneakers with his suit at the Valentine's Day dance, she absolutely would have died at my wedding. Mr. Frog wore red high-tops with his tux.
