She had a set bedtime of 9PM. (Maybe she set that for herself, I don't remember. If she did then she was way too responsible.) She must have set it for herself, 'cause in one book it said that the Pike kids didn't have any bedtimes, just a certain time by which they had to be in their rooms and be quiet, and in another book, it said that the bedtime for every Pike kid age nine and up was 10 p.m.

I must say, I loved reading about Mean Old Mallory, the shopping trip with the Teeter Streeter and the fun day they planned in the end
but I also agree that she should have explained she needed privacy to work on her story

Mean Old Mallory was "mean" but so very hilarious, at the same time. I was glad Mal did not walk in on the play in action or see Jessi laughing. ITA with the Pike parents viewing Mallory as the "parent." One thing that came to me is AMM was supposedly a "feminist" and a person who as we were constantly reminded in less than positive, often very annoying ways (Gingerbread person in Mallory's Christmas Wish). That said wouldn't it make (even more logical) sense for Byron to clean up his own spilled milk? Big deal. In a family of 10, that must happen daily. The Pikes' probably have a rag either on or nearby their dining table for just such a purpose..why make such an issue of having Mallory do it? Yes, I realize it was all to further her sufferring. As for the "Strike" I have mixed feelings about it. For Mallory, it was awesome to finally see her take a stand. Have to give the Pike parents credit for immediately going along with it, too. I was surprised to read that by herself Mrs. Pike took the Triplets and Vanessa (why not Nicky instead)? to the mall? after dropping off Mal at the orthodontist. Question: I had braces, the metal kind. Even if I waited 10-15 minutes, then the appointment took another 10-15 minutes. No way did fitting new wires take long enough for a shopping trip in which 4 kids got shoes and presumably clothes, too, though it never stated the boys' got clothes just Mal and Vanessa. Speaking of which, did Mrs. Pike buy Mal those bags of t shirts, jeans, and socks while she was at the dentist or did they return to the mall so Mal could shop afterwards? On this reading, that suddenly caught my attention. 2 last points: After Mal told Claire to "just shut up.." shouldn't Mrs. Pike... at least at some point that night have talked to her? The Explorer expedition was very sweet but why wasn't Becca invited? Also, sorta seemed like something the Pike family should have done together. P.S. Did anyone else think Mal's description of Mr. Dougherty and his moustache twirling was creepy? And was he the same Mr. Dougherty who in BS Europen Vacation frustrated the heck out of Mrs. McGill for not doing his job as chaperone and then scaring everyone that he had gotten lost?

I snarked this book on LJ not so long ago.
Mallory annoys me in it so much. And she is so pathetic in that she can't do a thing without her siblings. The outing was sweet, I suppose, but all because she felt bad that they didn't go to the mall with her? What?!
The BSC annoyed me as well with the whole over-dramatic scene when Mal threatens to leave. Auughhh.

Thank you, Starrynight. Helsieboo, that scene wasn't quite as over-dramatic as the one in Get-Well Mallory though!

Auughhh! I'm going to have to snark on that one, next.
I like Mallory, I do, honestly. But she is so annoying!

Still you have to hand it to her for being so responsible most of the time, a lot of kids these days really need someone like that to look up to.

True, very true. But I bet when it comes to a throw-down a girl like that (coming from a big family and all) will know how to handle herself lol

Screech, "I hate my life! Aughhhh! Glitter!" and pay her siblings quarters to leave her alone. *nods*

In Cris Crocker fashion: LEAVE MALLORY ALONE!!!! LEAVE HER ALONE!!!!!
LOL, jk. But, seriously, I thought it was about time for Mal to tell everyone to f*ck off. The poor girl needed a little time to herself. Especially to expand upon "Rainy days and froggy nights!" LOL.

I mean her parents put a lot on her; it was time for her to say something.

Plus, Byron is TEN. A ten-year-old is perfectly capable of grabbing a paper towel and wiping up a spill. But in the BSC universe, where 10 is a child and 11 is a mini-adult, I suppose it's too much to hope for.
