Did I mention the "scary ass birds" can stay far from me, too? They can. What an odd mix of speakers! Aw, that is cool about the author, Oldhickory.

we had a local author one year, but she only came after school (so our parents could come too) and she stayed for a few days. i told her i liked to write too, and she was so encouraging. it was really awesome. i don't remember her name but i still have her books somewhere. Aww, that's nice. Now I remember a local author came to speak to us too, in elementary, and she was dressed in costume--she wrote historical books. I also still have the book she signed for me.

I would have loved the scary birds! I would trade Jesse Jackson for one scary bird!

We had a scary bird guy come to my school, too! I was in seventh grade. I remember because there's a photo in my yearbook from that year of his visit and I was right in the front row in the picture.
I never had an author come to my school. Last year, one of my coworkers actually got an author to Skype with us for a program she had planned and that was really cool.

^You guys are crazy regarding the birds. To each their own and I think you're dibble anyway.

I'm so nerdy! I watch an eaglet cam that basically just looks at a nest of eagle babies! I love animals though!

AMM had an affinity for authors coming to Stoneybrook all the time, or living there or putting Mallory in these special writing classes.

I just re-read this book. I quite liked the early Mallory books, I thought she should have explained things to the BSC and her parents earlier but other than that I sympathised with her situation. Later books like "Mallory Hates Boys (and Gym)" and "Mallory Pike, No. 1 Fan" was where she got annoying think. While it was unfair of the Pikes to expect her to do so much, in a way it makes sense in the BSC world. I mean, Mallory at 11 is a responsible babysitter because she's the eldest and looks after her brothers and sisters so much and Tiffany Kilbourne who is the same age is treated more like a client because she has only one younger sister and she hasn't had to be responsible for her because the eldest sister Shannon can take responsibility for both of them. It's a possible explanation for the difference anyway! Also find it funny that Claire at 5 can't make P&J sandwiches while Myriah 5 and Gabbie 2+1/2 can make a perfet batch of cookies

^That's Stoneybrook sometimes! Just like Gabbie is more developed than any of the other 2's and even a better softball player than 4 year old Jamie.

^ we learned in one of my classes that youngest children often take longer to learn things, like speaking, because there are older siblings to help take care of them. older children have to do more for themselves. so even though they are the same age, oldest child myriah and much youngest child claire have grown up so differently that they don't have a lot in common besides age :]

^That's a good point. Still, Myriah vs anyone younger or even a little older than her was sure exaggerated!

I've made chocolate chip cookies countless times and I still have to look at my recipe when I make them!

^Same here. No matter how wonderful the cookies may have smelled, (I used to be a chocolate chip cookie monster) Stacey really should have asked Claudia to come over for a "sample."

maybe myriah helped her mom bake a lot? i still don't buy that she could make perfect cookies so easily, but i would find it more believable if myriah had grown up helping out in the kitchen.

^Maybe Myriah "memorized" the receipe? I enjoyed reading about the green cookies because it was a total fun-sounding "preschool" scene (I've taught a lot of preschoolers). The thing is, she was only 5! Okay, "5 1/2"
