I used to think Logan's chapter in the Babysitters Remember book was really charming. I think one thing he absolutely loved about MA was her smile...doesn't he say something at the end like, she gave him a genuine smile and right then he knew she was the one for him Logan is always raving about Mary Anne's smile (because, you know, that's what most 13 yr old boys are checking out!) in Logan's Story and Logan Bruno, Boy Baby-sitter. ;D ... that's classic!

I always did think that on the cover of #60 Mary Anne's hair did look like a crew cut. I thought it was adorable when it was in that bob with those bangs.

Yes! That little bob was cute. MA in MA in the Middle was so adorable, which was accentuated by her frowning.

I wanted to get my hair cut short like that. In the 7th grade I did..thinking that I'd look like MA. Of course, it didn't work like that for me...but I still thought it looked cute. This is making me want to re-reading #10 and write a fic about it. I think I once tried to write about another angle to that book once. Wonder where that went? lol Geni

I wonder how this book would have been different if it had been written today? Has anyone ever thought about that?

I've updated "Lovesick," btw. Anyone want to either help w/ that one or work on this book at a different angle? I think that'd be fun.

I just finished reading this book and as a shy person myself, I think MA running out of her surprise party was totally ludicrous and unrealistic. As embarrassing and "on the spot" as she felt, wouldn't it be far more humiliating to have to face everyone after running away?

Yeah, the running out on your own party thing seemed unrealistic to me as well. I am very shy and sensitive like MA, but I would NEVER run out of a party if it turned out to be for me. I'd be embarrassed but I'd feel loved at the same time

I would feel incredibly embarrassed and desperate for it to be over, but I would also be quietly flattered, as you say. Admittedly, I may feel like running out, but I wouldn't, because that's a surefire way to ensure no one EVER forgets the event.

I adore Mary Anne. She was a bit over the top, running out of her own party and all, but still. I never knew people (readers) didn't like her makeover! I think she looks adorable with the short hair!
I've always wondered how Logan ended up with her, given that he is rather outgoing and into sports and stuff. But, everytime I wonder about that, I try not to think about it cause I love Logan and Mary Anne and prefer not to think of the random pairing that they are!
Ooh, ETA: Logan is the "southern gentleman" type of guy, maybe MA reminded him of the girls back home. She's conservative and quiet, and he does complain about "northerners" talking too much and too fast.

Maybe the girls back home really were like MA-not boy crazy and chasing after you like Stacey or Claudia (or even Cokie). Word on MA and Logan being a random couple. I guess they are kind of like Elizabeth Wakefield and Todd Wilkins- although Liz was pretty popular in school, unlike Mary Anne. Which makes me wonder- did Logan leave some broken hearts behind in Kentucky? For some reason, I've never really pictured him "dating, dating" anyone from back home. Didn't he mention something about girls back home in one of his books?? ETA-I've made almost half of the posts in this thread!!! Something must be wrong with me

^ bscfan24, I've practically made half the posts on this forum! There's nothing wrong with you ;D
Logan's past in Kentucky was never really mentioned much, although the southern gentleman thing didn't occur to me, probably because I'm Australian and don't know a whole lot about that culture.
I don't think MA and Logan as a couple were like Elizabeth and Todd, but I do think Logan and Todd were very similar. Liz and Todd were not as random, they were both the popular but wholesome 'all-American" teens - Liz was 'beautiful' (as we were constantly reminded) and Todd was hot stuff. But if Todd had been dating, say, Enid - now that would be the equivalent of MA and Logan.

I don't think that Logan liking Mary Anne is that much of a stretch. I really doubt that Logan is Mr. Popular. Like I said in another thread, I consider him to be like Stacey and Claudia - he seems really cool and mature to his own group of friends, but the rest of SMS probably doesn't pay that much attention to him. In the same vein, I don't think Mary Anne is super nerdy. She's just shy, and there's no reason shy girls can't get the guy every once in awhile.
