I'm familiar with the term as greer described it. At least that's what I learned from Oprah or Sex and the City, one or the other!

Sorry I brought it up, people. I didn't need descriptions. And yeah, maybe this kind of stuff should be saved for the sex thread. I'm sure not everyone likes to read about it, and that way they can just avoid that thread.

I brought it up, I guess, so I will change it - sorry!
I thought too many babies was a weird name for a book. The only time there were "too many babies" is when Mary Anne was sitting for the twins and brought Sammie along. But does an egg really count? Seriously. Once again, this would have been so much better with actual baby dolls. Then the title would make more sense. It should have been Mary Anne + 2 Many Eggs.

Lol that is great, Virgo. The caption could have been of an Easter egg hunt asking "Who (which egg) will MA chose?"

I just finished reading this one for the first time and - wow. This is definitely the strangest (and possibly worst) BSC book I've read. Did anyone else think that it didn't even feel like a BSC book? It was written in kind of a different tone. ALL the characters seemed out-of-character (since everyone seemed to be more of an idiot than usual), and the author's tone seemed almost mocking. Like the author was winking at us readers, saying "Ha! Aren't these characters idiots?"

But I kind of like Alan taking the project so seriouly

I also liked Alan (immediately) taking the project seriously. It was too bad the majority of the book was about Mary Anne juggling her egg, I mean Sammie. On page 127 Dawn tells MA "it would have been neat if our parents had a baby of their own, a little Schafer-Spier." I think that is more annoying than the Schafer-Olson or close to it anyway. The other thing was not once does either MA or Dawn realize their parents could adopt an older child, it doesn't have to be a baby. Otherwise, it's all been said already. Oh, way back when I think somewhere in the middle of this book's thread Greer said something like "Ann only watched Lucy," to the suggestion that "Bea" might have been Bea Arthur, I guess a Golden Girl. Thanks for that laugh, Greer. It does seem like Ann's tv only plays 2 channels: Lucy or Wizard of Oz. I wonder if she gets a cable discount?

I thought it was interesting how this book was heavily referenced in one of the BSC TV show episodes BUT was from Dawn's perspective, not Mary Anne's.

In regards to "it would have been neat if our parents had a baby of their own, a little Schafer-Spier."
Why, in books written to carefully show that women can do anything and be doctors and mayors, do these characters think women should be having babies and giving them last names that are hyphenated with their ex-husband's last name and their current husband's last name? It makes zero sense to me. Emily Thomas-Brewer makes no sense. Hypothetical Baby Shafer-Spier makes no sense. Maybe Porter-Spier, if Dawn's mom had gone back to her maiden name after the divorce, but what is wrong with just Spier? Or even just Porter?
Mary Anne babysitting the twins and spending half the time worried about her stupid egg was just ridiculous. The teacher is not going to know if you leave the egg somewhere, and she is old enough to prioritize the real infants over her egg.

she could have just stuck eggy sammie in a washroom or room or something, telling the parents of the baby sitting charges about her project.
also didn't mary anne's character in the bsc episode smile like a total b---- when Dawn thought she lost her egg?

After reading this again, it felt like a bad after school special telling young girls not to have babies. I guess nowadays, it wouldn't be too far off with 12 and 13 year olds having sex (which I find real sad)
