Did the teacher have the girls retake the test? I can't remember any more but think that might have done some good. I guess I need to reread this one, even though it is one of my least favorites. ;D Claudia should have just let her parents help.

Claudia re-took it, and after she did the teacher asked Shawna to, but she refused, saying she'd never be able to pass it.

^ That didn't give it away who had cheated? I can't remember if that was at the end or not. I need to reread soon. ;D

^ Yep that happened at the end of the book. What that teacher did was really unprofessional. In a normal situation, the two students would automatically have to retake it, no questions asked.

^ Totally agree. Maybe that's why the whole book seemed so foolish and pointless. ;D

Yeah - but in a real life situation, Claudia would've been the cheat. Have you ever heard of the smartest kid in a class copying off the dumbest?

^ Actually..... I was cheated off of (not that I was the dumbest kid but....) by some "good, smart" kids who would "never cheat". But they did! In my experience, a cheater will cheat off of anyone they think might have the answers. Maybe Shawna thought Janine helped Claudia study and Claudia did seem to know what she was doing. I think teachers should investigate the situation instead of just saying "they're a good kid. They wouldn't cheat." Sometimes that's how they get the good grades.....

In my experience, a cheater will cheat off of anyone they think might have the answers. Maybe Shawna thought Janine helped Claudia study and Claudia did seem to know what she was doing. Well, that was the reasoning given - that Shawna had somehow found out Janine was helping Claudia study - but I still think it's a little far-fetched. That said, I absolutely agree that the teacher shouldn't have just assumed Claudia was the cheat, it should've been an automatic re-test. But in my cynical way, I'd probably have doubted Claudia as well, if I was the teacher in that situation.

^ I probably would have doubted Claudia in my mind, too. Having been in her situation, though, I can relate. It's horrible when people won't believe that a "good" kid cheated.

^ I've gotten away with that sort of thing to an extent. Not for cheating, but my teachers always assumed I did things like my homework and never bothered to check.
I hate to admit it but I actually have cheated before. Not among my finer moments, but it has happened. I never got caught, though.

^I've cheated before too. But not off of someone, I can't trust anyone else's answers. I'm more of a "hidden cheat sheet" kind of girl. Actually, now that I think about it, I might have copied someone's answers on an econ test last year. It was a required course, and I didn't care that much about the material, only the grade. *shrug*. It's hard to study for a gen ed when you have 5 other course in your major, a job, and extra curriculars.

About being more inclined to belive Shawna more than Claudia, I agree... to an extent. the thing is, Claudia never had a history of cheating. She'd had other major tests before... that would've also been a good reason to cheat, but she didn't. To me it almost seems that a perfectionist like Shawna would have a better reason to cheat, because she didn't want that mark on her grade. While claudia might have been lazy and not the best student, she'd never cheated, ... seriously so yeah, zorzi so should've given claud the benefit of the doubt and let her and shawna retake it

Yeah, but I don't think teachers think like that. I taught a course last year and I never thought that "oh, she has not history of cheating, it must not be her". It's more about consistency -- this student hasn't tried so far, how come her grade has suddenly spiked?
I probably would have failed both students and been done with it. Claudia should have done a better job of not letting someone cheat off of her. That was the policy when I was in high school, and it worked out pretty well for us. The teacher should also have been paying more attention to his classroom.

^ Agree about the teacher but not about it being Claudia's fault. Unless you put books or some kind of shield around yourself, how can you prevent someone from looking at your paper? You can make it hard but not impossible. A cheater can always find a way....
