I've been to two different schools that have "Lakers" for a team name and mascot. I still have not yet determined what a "Laker" actually is.

My university doesn't technically have a mascot, but we are known as the excaliburs (I know, it's so sad). It had nothing to do with my school at all, so I don't know why they chose it to be representitive of the university.

^ What were the mascots, cpennylane? I'm trying to picture a Laker (though I know I've seen one before ;D)

^Um... I think it was a sailor or a duck or a pirate. I can't remember. The Lake State Lakers. Also, GVSU Lakers. And I've also been a cougar (twice), a hornet, a raider, a red hawk, a pioneer, a wolverine and an eagle. Eastern could have the best mascot - I mean, how could would it be to be the EMU emus? But even though 90% of students and faculty like the idea, the athletic director hates it, so they will never change.

My high school team was the Cardinals.
It took me YEARS to realize that it was probably an elaborate pun. We were a Catholic school. I like to think that's what it was, anyway, and not just a coincidence. (The mascot was a bird, though. Heh.)
...there's an all-girls school that we played (we were all-girls, too, basically I went to school in the Prep School District) whose mascot was the beaver. I think that's NY's state animal and THAT'S why they chose it, but...I can't help but think they didn't think that through too well. ;D

^The beaver things sounds like something out of a movie! It must be one of those things where "it's tradition" so they won't change it.
I think this is my least favorite BSC book. Stacey seems so OoC and it's really short!

^ Was this one short? I liked it too but not because of that. ;D Maybe you could work at getting the mascot changed to an emu, cpenny. Is that your school now? (assuming it is ;D) Emus make me laugh thinking of MA and the Zoo Mystery. ;D

^No, I graduated. And people have tried for years to change it. The athletic director is pretty much the only person standing in the way. I'm glad to have that school behind me, it's not a very happy place.
I think this might be the shortest BSC book.

My college mascot was a Cardinal. One of my best friend's high school mascot was a Trojan. We always give her heck for it.

As for this book, why were they trying to change the mascot? Did it ever go through or did they get too sidetracked after the Tess incident at the game?

I go to a Catholic school too and we're called the Warriors, but we can't have a Warrior mascot at our games because it's offensive or something. They're thinking about changing our name, but I have no clue what we'd be called if we did that.

My college's nickname was the Crusaders, Saders for short. It confused a lot of people who thought we were the Sadists, which I always thought was hilarious considering it's a Baptist college.

^hehehe... too bad there wasn't a team called the Masochists (sorry... couldn't resist!)
I'm sure that somewhere, somehow there's been a game between teams with the respective names of Sharks and Jets? That would be the only sports game I'd have any interest in seeing, though I'd probably get kicked out for refusing to stop singing the score to West Side Story...

^ The reference to West Side Story and the mascots makes me think of the story my dad has about going to that movie when he was young because he thought it was about gang fights. Little did he know.... ;D
