I felt so bad for Mallory in this book! As someone who's had mono before, I know how much it sucks. It really made me angry when Kristy was being so rude to her, asking what was wrong with her and making a comment about how they're gonna be two sitters short if she can't take any sitting jobs. It also made me mad when Jessi was baby-sitting with Mal and internally complaining about how she wasn't helping her. We all know Mal is not going to slack on a baby-sitting job, so I feel like if they notice Mal is tired and lethargic and telling people she doesn't feel good, they should know she's not lying and trying to get out of work. Also, it had been a long time since I last read this book and was trying to remember what made Wendy a "bad" baby-sitter. Was she ignoring the kids or smoking or talking on the phone while she sat the kids in front of the TV? I was shocked when she was actually really quite good with kids and was wondering what made her a so-called "bad" baby-sitter. The only thing she does wrong is show up late at the Pikes. She should have called Jessi and told her what was going on. Also, the fact that she has to "share" her clients with the BSC is ridiculous. This is her neighbor who knows her and has never met the BSC. Why the hell would they want some new person baby-sit for their baby when they like/trust Wendy and have an established relationship with her. I don't blame Wendy one bit for not wanting to be part of the club, though it is too bad she couldn't be an associate member. Do we ever see her again in the series? Jessi was so weird for complaining about Mallory being sick and being useless when they were babysitting together. Then wondering briefly if Mallory was faking it when she said she didn't feel well enough to go to the party store with them. Like you said, they know Mallory and they know she wouldn't be trying to get out of work. Kristy was all set to blame Mallory for the off-chance the club would have to shut down if everyone got sick too. Wendy was irresponsible with showing up late to a meeting and then to the Pikes without calling. Like the sitting job, she definitely should have told Jessi she would be late. She was never told the rules when she joined, despite Kristy insisting she was, so I guess she didn't realize she had to be at every meeting. Expecting her to turn over her own personal jobs to the BSC was ridiculous though. Jessi tells her "If we all took private jobs, we wouldn't have a club" but I'd like to think the BSC would make an exception for one family. Though knowing how Kristy is in this book, probably not. I think Wendy shows up in another book as like a background character? I figured she would have been driven out of Stoneybrook for defying the BSC!

Tbh, while re-reading the series, I get the feeling that Jessi isn't the greatest friend to Mal. She definitely has her moments, like when she let Mal borrow money in California Girls!, but she shuts her out in Mallory and the Dream Horse, practically ignores her in Jessi's Gold Medal, is judgy of her in this book (I agree, Mal is NOT lazy and wouldn't fake sick to get out of work. Jessi especially should know that), and thinks she's racist in BSC in the USA (luckily, this was just in-text so Mal never knew about this). Putting it altogether like this... wow, Jessi, lol. Mallory is a great friend for the most part imo (she is so sweet in Happy Holidays, Jessi). Thread idea: which BSC member is the best friend? Back OT lol... I feel bad for Wendy and aside from her punctuality, she's a great babysitter. I think she just wasn't mature enough yet to fully commit to it. Which is fine, she's 11! I hate how Kristy acted in this book and how she told Jessi she couldn't believe they were friends. Get over yourself, Kristy. Wendy is more of a typical 11yo imo, she just wants to play video games and that's okay.

Yeah between this and Mallory and the Dream Horse (though I get why she was being bitchy in that one), Jessi is really quick to judge Mallory. Poor Mallory can't catch a break, even from her best friend. That's why I think they could have at least kept Wendy on as an associate. Then she wouldn't be required to be at every meeting to face Kristy's wrath.

If a clients kid was shoplifting Jessi should have told the parents right away. Why would she trust a seven year old to tell her parents on her own? Big fail there.

Imagine being the parents and finding out Jessi essentially let your kid off the hook for shoplifting. How could you trust her judgement again?

I think Jessi makes Margo promise to tell her parents on her own (ha) and of course, Margo doesn't. Jessi should have been more assertive here than asking Margo to do it, then worrying about if she should tell Mallory.
