^ Speaking of American Girl and Williamsburg, I was so excited when I watched the movie because I recognized all of the places. And as for American Girl dolls, I have several on my Christmas list. ;D I really want a Kit someday. Now I'll have to think of what doll the different sitters and charges would like best (I think of weird things like this instead of "counting sheep" at night ;D) I wonder if the Schafer-Spiers ever went back to Boston. It's too bad that Jeff wasted his whole vacation being miserable.

I always thought it was sweet to see MA defending Richard, because they didn't have the most demonstrative relationship at the beginning of the series.
Also, aln, when I can't sleep, I have been known to recite the list of BSC titles in numerical order in my head.
When I was little, I got two American Girl dolls, and I decided that when I grew up I would buy myself the other three. Now I'm almost "grown up" and there are like five more I have to get. d**n you, Pleasant Company! Totally OT, but I love the Bitty Baby dolls, too, though I wasn't really into them until I saw them in person. My friend and I went to American Girl Place in Manhattan and just wandered around the Bitty Baby floor oohing and ahhing with all the elementary school-aged girls and their moms.

Glad to know I'm not the only adult who wants American Girl dolls. I was mad they didn't come out with them when I was younger. I do the BSC title thing in my mind (and what book by what sitter, etc) too. ;D Also agree about MA and Richard. This book was very realistic to me with the fight. My family and I tend to have petty fights like this one (though not as long lasting) every time we go somewhere. I can imagine it would be a lot worse with a step-family or even with more members (there are only 3 of us).

the bitty baby stuff is so cute!!!
aln, do you mean that they didn't have as many when you were younger? my mom bought samantha for me when i was born in 1986, so they've been around since then.
luckily i have a little sister who is super into american girl--i think she has nine now--so i don't need to spend the money to buy it for myself. i can just admire her collection.

Ditto on the Bitty Baby stuff being cute. I went to the American Girl Place in Chicago and spent nearly 15-20 minutes playing with a set of those Bitty Baby twins they had on display. Those were adorable!

^ I love the Bitty babies, too, and have one my aunt got me several years ago. I want another one of those. ;D I meant that I didn't know about the dolls until I was older but when did the historical ones come out? I didn't think the books were even out until 1988 but I might be wrong.

I saw the American Girl movie about Samantha, but I've never read the books before. I'm surprised to hear they've been around since 1986 or even before then. I thought they were from the 90s.

Yeah, I thought they were a 90s thing too. My, the things you learn on here lol. I can still remember years ago when there were no American Girl stores and to get the stuff in the catalog, you had to call and order it (no internet either, or at least it still wasn't as popular then). That was how my mom got me my Samantha doll for Christmas. I remember feeling so thrilled when they opened the first American Girl Place in Chicago (not far from where I live, I felt so special ;D). That was when I got my Bitty Baby doll.

^ From waht I remember, they didn't get big until the 1990s. I at least didn't start reading them until '92 (Meet Felicity was my first ;D) and probably would have started way before if I would have known about them. They must not have been in many bookstores around me, either, before then because I was always searching for good books and have always loved historical fiction. ;D

what stuff did Jeff or Dawn actually say about Richard that was mean?

^ To his face, they were mostly just bratty and kind of rude. Dawn said some mean things about him to MA. Mostly things insulting his athletic ability (including some remarks in front of the other girls), kind of making fun of him and the worst (in my opinion) was when she said Richard “practically ruined Jeff’s vacation” by being nice enough to take off work and try to spend time with him. Dawn can say some pretty mean things sometimes (I know they all can but Dawn seems to get especially snippy sometimes) and I really felt for Richard in this book and MA, too, when Dawn was saying stuff about her dad. This would really upset me if someone did it to me. I actually just reread parts of this one this morning and though I usually don’t like Barrett-Dewitt fights, this one had its funny moments. Also, one of my favorite sitting scenes is in this one where Suzi is pretending she is driving the bus (box ) The Barrett kids are so cute. ;D

Mary Anne has her share of snippy comments. She also moved in on Sharon and Richards' "honeymoon" instead of working out their problems, and I think she was kind of mean to Jeff. He was a bit babyish, and immature, but he is only 10, and he's dealing with a lot more then M.A. ever really had to deal with.
