Which do you prefer: California Diaries or Friends Forever?

Neither! To be "fair" I never did read the CA Diaries. I do have all the FF, just don't much care for them.

^ Maybe I should have added "Neither."

I wish I could vote, but I've never read a CA Diaries, and the only FF I've read is Graduation Day. I've never found books from either series in a thrift store.

I'm sorry, Anzuhana, I didn't mean to cause trouble. I do think if the Maureen owning her own business storyline in Stacey's Problem had been expanded, that FF book could have been very interesting to read.

Zoar, you didn't cause any trouble. I think Maureen owning her own business would have been interesting to read, as well.

Just making sure. I would never want to take away from anyone's thread. It really would have been cool to read about a BSC mom starting her own business and having Stacey help out in some capacity. Also, finally, after 12 years, Maureen changed her surname back to Spencer. (Her maiden name).

LOL, I will go ahead and cast a big dramatic vote! I think the CA Diaries are better-written and more interesting than FF overall. To me, the whole arc of FF seems really off--there's just SO MUCH TIME devoted to the stupid Claudia-Stacey-Jeremy triangle. If that hadn't dragged on it would have been better. I do like Mary Anne's characterization in the FF series, though.

Lol, Alula. I may not care for Dawn or honestly hold interest in reading about her CA friends but I wouldn't be surprised if the CD's were much better. FF was a big fat failure, imo. I agree with your triangle comment. I think FF could have been gigundoly better if the BSC Members had graduated SMS right before the horrible fire at MA's House (assuming that still had to happen) and then the FF Series shared a more serious, indivudual account of the Sitters lives from right before Graduation through perhaps their first year of 9th Grade. The books could have almost been like mini Portraits or Super Specials. Yes, I may be in the minority, but if the preceeding had happened, I would have liked the Charges to have still been involved and the BSC to have not broken up--cut back. Maybe the club could have been expanded at long last, for a couple more Associates, in order to give the main members more time off. Perhaps then we would have gotten to read about the Pike Triplets first year at SMS, more of Mal at Rivervend, Jessi re-thinking turning down Dance NY and changing her mind (lol a possible interesting Jessi book at last), and even Charlie Thomas heading off to college. Many possibilities having them age one year could have brought.

CD, hands down. Loved reading about Dawn's friends in more "grown up" situations.

I like Mary Anne's characterization in FF as well. The way she's characterized in the series is the way I imagine her to be as an adult.

zoar3, Dawn is honestly my least favorite part of the CD series, heh. Both in terms of her story and her voice; I just like Amalia and Ducky, and relate to Maggie, enough that honestly, when I think of the CD Dawn isn't even the first person who comes to mind.

Off topic, but I was watching The Nanny the other night and Maggie Sheffield is totally how I picture Maggie Blume...tall, blonde bob, well-dressed, rich...

^If I ever come across one of the CD's, I promise to at least give it a gander.

Friends Forever, although neither series exactly provided us with shining examples of what fiction can be.
