Kristy wasn't making fun of anything other than lunch food. Abby may have been poking fun at real people.

^ Yeah, I agree that Kristy was making fun of the lunch food but I don't necessarily know why Kristy disapproved of Abby's jokes. It could be because she thought it was inappropriate or wanted the attention back at her or for both reasons.

^I read it as both of those reasons. I got the sense that she felt Abby was intruding on her turf but don't recall her explicitly complaining about that, possibly because it would sound so petty. So Kristy harped on about how inappropriate the imitations were to give her bitching about Abby more of a leg to stand on.

That could very well be, Lila. I guess I just am not one for impersonations so shrug.

i have to vote for jessi, because her confidence never really wavered. she wasn't the most reasonable or practical, but she took every opportunity to prove herself. she didn't let the older girls in her class to intimidate her, because she knew she was good.

To me, I sorta feel (based on my limited knowledge of her, as I'm not well versed in the later books) that Abby isn't necessarily that confidant. Her humor is a big coping mechanism. If she can appear happy-go-lucky and well-adjusted, it won't show that she doesn't feel like herself anymore.
Kristy always seemed supremely confidant to me. She knows she's good at being in charge and full of ideas. She knows that people depend on her. I think all of that makes her feel important.

I voted for Kristy. To be fair, I'm not nearly as familiar with Abby as I am with Kristy, having stopped reading the BSC series as a kid not long after Abby first appeared, but I did see the differences between the two when reading the Friends Forever series. They both have their own insecurities and I wouldn't say that either Kristy or Abby is 100% self-confident, but I'd still go with Kristy simply because I've seen her prove her confidence so many times over. I also agree with BuckinghamAlice's observation that Abby's humor is a coping mechanism. I've known a lot of people who have done the same thing--myself included, at times--and at least in my own personal experiences, it has been in the times where I felt most vulnerable. While Kristy seems to show a bit more insecurity around Abby than she does in other environments, it's a pretty small amount compared to all the times we've seen her.
